Job Description |
|
|
- Lead research on reading/literacy theories and strategies for reading instruction and promotion. This will include ongoing research and understanding of the government curriculum, existing reading instruction programs, pre-service and in-service teacher professional development focused on reading/literacy training programs, etc.
- Lead continuous development of reading programme strategy including continuous development of instructional materials; enhancing capacity building strategy for teachers, school administration, and district administration at various levels, etc.
- Lead program implementation and over-all management and supervision of the Literacy/reading pilots and the Reading Cell.
- Play a lead role, with the Monitoring and Evaluation Program Officer, in continuously designing and refining our review, monitoring and evaluation systems and procedures used to track progress and achievements against planned program outcomes.
- Work with the Research and Documentation Officer to indentify key areas of research to add to the broad knowledge base of the program as well as areas where short-term action research might be needed.
- Oversee process documentation, documentation of best practices and other external evaluation activities.

Qualifications:
- Masters’ degree in Social Sciences or Education.
- This position will require significant academic and content knowledge, as well as project management skills.
- The Director should develop in to a strong academic resource for literacy in the Country Office.
Experience:
- At least ten years of work experience in primary education.
- At least five years experience of programme management.
- Excellent knowledge and understanding of teaching methodologies of literacy and reading development, curriculum and learning outcomes, assessments and program evaluation and teachers training and capacity building at primary stage.
- Strong planning, supervising, and program development skills, Understanding of monitoring, evaluation, and process documentation.
- Experience developing educational learning materials and for students or teachers.
- Experience developing and conducting training programs for teachers.
- Experience in advocacy with the Government and key stakeholders for the program and networking with organizations working on similar intervention areas.
