Job Description

  • Lead technical group of software developers in all stages of software development cycle from the establishment of user requirements through implementation of bioinformatics solutions.
  • Implement a structured and logical view to administer the resources of the unit, including scheduling of staff assigned to the projects under their responsibility.
  • Responsible for solving technical problems faced by others regarding the services provided by the Unit.
  • Participate in the planning and prioritization of activities related to the design and implementation of bioinformatics solutions.
  • Lead efforts to capture, analyze and document user requirements for deployment of bioinformatics solutions.
  • Asses design and implement data models, schemas, and bioinformatics solutions.
  • Participate in the design and implementation of integrated bioinformatics solutions.
  • Participate in the development of training materials required in related activities. .
  • Present seminars, workshops and training courses.
  • Create and maintain good working relationships with other members of the unit within a highly professional environment.
  • Maintain effective relationships with customers, key stakeholders, and technology teams.
  • Guide and assist in the professional development of staff at SIU.
  • Work effectively in a diverse team environment.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the supervisor.
Candidate Profile

Qualifications:

  • BS/BA in Computer Science, Systems, Informatics or areas related to Information Technology.
  • Three to five years of experience in developing and/or using informatics tools for the management of large-volume data sets.
  • Strong knowledge of the following IT skills, programming languages and development solutions:

o    Programming Languages and Scripts: JAVA, HTML, XML, CSS, XSTL
o    Integrated Development environments: Netbeans, Eclipse
o    SOA, Web services, Portlets architectures.
o    UML Specifications
o    Software versions control: Subversion

  • Strong analytical skills with a high level of attention to detail.
  • Ability to investigate and analyze with minimum supervision tasks and activities and to find solutions that will make them more efficient by using various IT resources.
  • Ability to work and communicate well with others, including a good level of understanding of specific user requirements and needs.
  • Good interpersonal skills and a strong desire to support the delivery of improved, products, tools and services to team members and collaborators.
  • Excellent bilingual skills (English/Spanish).
  • Ability to work well as part of multidisciplinary and multicultural teams.
