Job Description

Based in UNMC office in New Delhi, India the Campaign and Advocacy Associate/Specialist will be report to the Deputy Director, Asia.  The successful candidate will be expected, over a short period of time to become knowledgeable of arrangements in place between the UN Country Team (UNCT)/Resident Coordinator office in New Delhi and the Millennium Campaign Asia Office, working at all times in the interest of a mutually satisfying arrangement. The Associate/Specialist will work in close cooperation with UNCT and UNA/CG.

 

The successful candidate will be expected, over a short period of time to become familiar and knowledgeable of the status of the MDGs, the Campaign’s engagement with key partners, constituencies and the political dynamic and environment in each of the focus countries. Key responsibilities will include:

 

Ensures implementation of operational strategies, focusing on achievement of the following results:

q          Supporting National partners in developing communication and advocacy campaigns for the achievement of the MDGs in India and respective SA countries through a results-based framework.

q          Exploring further sustainable partnerships in India with civil society, youth, and media groups and more specifically to build active partnership with organizations of Local Authorities and Parliamentarians to hold governments to account for the achievement of the MDGs by 2015

 

Ensures proper  focusing on achievement of the following result:

q          Well coordinated campaigning plan owned by UNCT in India and other SA Asia focus    countries to be activated in consultation with stakeholders and with support of existing engagements in India based on the Campaign Guide Sheet developed.

 

Supports knowledge building and knowledge sharing around the Campaigning strategies and tools , focusing on achievement of the following results:

q          Engage in supporting the Deputy Director in strategic coalition building/networking and advocacy and campaigning with constituencies across India especially for key policy opportunities and events.

q          Build a comprehensive campaign and advocacy strategy around  key policy moments for India  and S Asia  region towards policy practice change for the achievement of the MDGs

 

Candidate Profile

Educational Qualification: 

 

q          Master Degree in a related fields (Political science, Social Sciences, Social Work etc. and some background in Media and Communications, Social Marketing, will be added advantage);

 

Experience:

                                               

q          Five to seven years of relevant work experience within S Asia region with experience in media and communications work, coalition building/networking,  as well as advocacy and campaigning

q          Previous experience in working for a national organization with some regional exposure and or experience

 

 

Knowledge and Skills:

 

q          Good understanding of government systems  in India, the ability to facilitate policy/practice change advocacy work based sound knowledge of the MDGs and their status in focus countries;

q          Excellent writing, and communications skills – verbal and written; creativity and innovation abilities for creating public events, proficiency in English and another Asian language would be an advantage;

q          Proficient in the use of the internet and PCs, including Microsoft Office and Windows XP;

q          Proven ability to (i) work flexibly and independently with limited supervision in a multicultural team environment and deliver quality results against tight deadlines; (ii) multi-task in an organization transcending across national boundaries and multiple time zones.          

q          Willingness to travel frequently within India and sometimes in S Asia and globally.

 

Languages:                                                        

 

Excellent knowledge of English. Knowledge of local language would be an added advantage
