Job Description

Under the overall guidance and supervision of the Director, Department of Communicable Diseases (CDS) and also under the supervision and collaboration of the Regional Adviser, Communicable Diseases Surveillance and Response (CSR), the incumbent will:
1. Support the RA/CSR and other unit technical staff in monitoring effective implementation of activities within the broader CSR work plan, including assisting in the preparation of schedule of activity by quarter to facilitate timely implementation;
2. Ensure consistent and periodic monitoring of all administrative services including project budget and work plan exercises for CSR related activities;
3. Coordinate in administrative and logistics mechanism for the efficient and timely availability of supplies and equipment, including antiviral drugs and personal protective equipment in the SEAR countries to pre-empt the influenza pandemic;
4. Assist in the preparation of periodic reports to donors and bilateral agencies, on the implementation of CSR programme activities, reflecting the workflow targets attained, funds utilized, and standards met;
5. Provide effective support to CSR unit in the Regional Office and two sub-units and Country Offices on initiating prompt action to ensure timely recruitment actions;
6. Assist the technical unit in preparation of draft proposals for possible funding by donor and bilateral agencies; and follow up of bilateral or multilateral pledges to ensure availability of funds for timely implementation of Regional and National Influenza Pandemic Preparedness Plans and IHR (2005) implementation in the South-East Asia Region;
7. Undertake any other duties as assigned by the supervisor; and
8. Submit an assignment report at the end of the assignment, which is mandatory.

Candidate Profile

Education:
Essential: Minimum a Bachelor's degree in business management or public health administration.
Desirable: Training in logistics management would be an advantage.
Competencies:

5. Respecting and promoting individual and cultural differences.

Skills:
Knowledge and skills in management and coordinating implementation of health programmes. Knowledge of and ability to learn organizational policies and procedures, rules and regulations. Ability to establish harmonious working relations with national and international colleagues. Excellent communication skills and ability to work smoothly in a demanding working environment. Ability to write reports and documents clearly and concisely.
Other Skills (e.g. IT):
Computer literacy, particularly related to computer applications as a management tool.
Experience:
Essential: Experience in the management of health-related projects, including administration, budget preparation and monitoring of financial resources of at least three years. International work experience, of at least one year preferably in the United Nations System.
Desirable: Practical knowledge of UN system.
Languages:
Good knowledge of written and spoken English.

Compensation USD 52,408 at single rate
