Centre for the Conservation of the Marine Fauna of the Golfo de Urabá-Darién, Colombia

Its objectives include:
- Recuperate and strengthen the environmental culture of the municipalities, achieving a better correspondence with the principles of conservation and protection of marine-coastal ecosystems
- Stimulate social training, information and research, applied to the organization of programs of which the results contribute to increased awareness on the conservation of natural resources.
- Propose and develop programs aimed at the protection, conservation and recuperation of natural resources.

The Centre, to be completed in 2010 or 2011, aims at a sustainable basis for ecotourism in the region, attracting visitors from Colombia and elsewhere in the world. The Centre will provide various jobs: trained doctors and nurses to take care of wounded marine animals, aquaculture experts related to fish farming, eco-guides, or different positions in local hotels, restaurants and shops. The Centre will ensure the availability of the required training. As a result, the lives of the local population will change due to their increased contact with visitors from elsewhere, and due to the improvement in their economic situation.

Corporación Ambiental

The “Corporación Ambiental” Biomunicipios is a non-profit entity with offices in Medellin and Turbo, established to provide solutions to the environmental problems of the marine-coastal zone in the area of Urabá-Darién.
