We're Population Services International (PSI), the world's leading non-profit social marketing organization. We work to make it easier for people in the developing world to be healthy by providing access to products and services that range from mosquito nets to HIV testing.

The Southern Africa (SA) team is known for our social enterprises and innovations in HIV- related work, including self-testing and VMMC. Currently, we have programs operating in Lesotho, Madagascar, South Africa, Swaziland, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.
We are looking for an Associate Program Manager (APM) to help us provide strategic support to PSI's programs in Southern Africa. The APM should be passionate about contributing to the health of those we serve around the world, love numbers and working with data, like the challenge of linking programs with finances, and have a curiosity for why things are the way they are and confidence to ask how we can do better.
The APM will have wide?ranging responsibilities working with PSI staff at all levels both in Washington and overseas, providing program management and technical support for two countries in the Southern Africa region. The APM will serve as the key liaison between the country teams and PSI global services, serving as a champion for the field. The APM will have wide-ranging responsibilities and requires flexibility and willingness to assume varied duties and projects with an emphasis on administrative tasks. The APM will pro-actively meet programmatic and administrative needs, juggle multiple competing priorities, and enthusiastically ensure smooth and timely flow of work. This position is based in Washington, D.C. and reports to a Program Manager for Southern Africa.

Serve as a Champion for the Field
- Serve as the primary contact to country offices and as a liaison between country platforms, Program Manager, donors, and executive, technical and functional departments.
- Advise platforms on technical, capacity building, development and strategic issues including conducting short term technical assistance visits on as needed basis.
Help Platforms Achieve Operational Integrity and Programmatic Success
- Manage all contracts and accounting issues pertaining to the supported platforms
- Serve as the main point of contact on proposal development (lead budget development and overall coordination of proposal submission)
- Track and budget department salaries for annual operating budgets, donor budgets and project billing
- Ensure timely submission of donor deliverables and compliance with awards
- Monitor contract compliance of donor-funded projects, including subawards
- Independently initiate and complete monthly financial status reports review (“ASR review”), quarterly sales and procurement analysis
- Manage communications with overseas staff, including HCN Management staff
- Create, review, update and realign donor budgets
- Manage the Annual Operating Budget and process for the supported platforms
- Manage re-classification and correct budget entries as needed
What are we looking for?
- You have a master's degree in a relevant subject (MPH, MBA, MIA, etc.) or equivalent experience.
- You have at least two years relevant work experience in a fast-paced office environment
- You have at least two years of prior work experience in a developing country.
- You have advanced computer skills including Excel, word processing, budget management and data analysis.
- You can impress us with your organizational and administrative skills with special attention to detail and timeliness.
- You have proven ability to develop routines to manage large workloads and organize work efficiently.
- You take initiative and are ready to interact with a variety of people and assume diverse duties and tasks.
- You are passionate about working on international health and private sector issues and are willing to work hard to make a difference in the lives of those we serve.
- Knowledge of USAID and international donor community required.
- You are fluent in English. Verbal and written in skills in French preferred.
