How can you make a difference?

We are now looking for a consultant to update and develop an overall advocacy and political engagement strategy. Deliverables will include support to UNICEF's engagement in the political calendar and in new partnerships, such as with the Development Research Centre of the State Council (which has a current focus on ECD). Moreover, the consultancy will produce products that can be used to promote further coordination and integration of ECD initiatives within UNICEF China and inform the evolution of UNICEF China’s advocacy strategy on ECD. The stakeholders or actors in China working on ECD will also be mapped, as will documentation that exists across Health, Nutrition and WASH, Education and Child Protection sections; and create a central repository of this in the office.

Key deliverables will include:

  • Mapping of key areas for communications messages related to policy advocacy.
  • Supporting sessions on policy advocacy at two key meetings in the UNICEF country office on poverty and internet safety.
  • Take stock and inventory of existing ECD programme documentation (e.g. briefs, brochures, pamphlets) by programme section.
  • Develop a detailed inventory and description of all partners who work on ECD in China.

To qualify, you will have

  • Master's degree in relevant field
  • At least 5 years of prior experience of working in the U.N
  • Background and expertise in Early Childhood Development
  • Experience in communication and advocacy
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines and independently
  • Demonstrated skills in coordination between different units, divisions or offices
  • Fluency in English with excellent communication and writing skills (Chinese is an advantage)
