Job Description

The East Africa Regional Business Unit is conducting an internal & external recruit for a PMU Associate. The Associate will support the Famine Early Warning Systems Network (FEWS NET), which provides evidence-based food security information and analysis to global stakeholders. East and Southern Africa’s robust new business market is equally diverse and promises plenty of opportunities to those willing to take on new and exciting opportunities. We are looking for individuals who have a passion for making a difference in the lives of people around the world. Due to ever-shifting resourcing needs, the specific project assignment within East and Southern Africa will be determined based on the needs of the region and the qualifications of the selected candidate. 

Responsibilities include: 

  • Support field-office administration, including travel coordination, visa processing, vendor payment requests, invoicing, approvals, and updating of project-related trackers
  • Process field reports, including time and expense reports and other client-related reports
  • Draft and manage project-related employment and subcontract agreements
  • Coordinate with project team to compile agendas for weekly teleconference and other project-related meetings
  • Assist with procurement and grant-related project activities
  • Assists and supports communication to field teams and client
  • Support communication to field teams and client
  • Address field staff’s inquiries and needs promptly
  • Communicate scopes of work, policies, and allowances/benefits for team member and consultants
  • Assist with recruiting and identifying candidates for a variety of field positions
  • Assist with budget monitoring, level-of-effort utilization, invoices, subcontractors’ costs, expense reports, deliverables, etc., to monitor compliance with contract and Chemonics’ regulations
  • Maintain knowledge in own discipline and begin to expand versatility in international development work by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies and Chemonics’ practice networks
  • Participate on proposal teams and support overall new business efforts

  • Receive constructive feedback and use feedback to improve performance and grow professionally


  • Minimum 2 years’ relevant project or contract management experience with ability to solve administrative and operational issues
  • Bachelor’s degree in international development, agriculture, food security, or related field required; master’s degree preferred
  • Strong writing and interpersonal skills
  • Willingness to travel and work abroad a minimum of 4 to 8 weeks per year
  • Ability to make significant contributions to end products and direct others to achieve results
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task in a fast-moving team
  • Successful work experience in a developing country; experience living or working in Africa preferred
  • Demonstrated interest in agriculture and food security preferred
  • Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity
  • French proficiency preferred
