Job Description

The United States–India Educational Foundation (USIEF), established in 1950, promotes educational exchange between the U.S. and India. USIEF activities are described on www.usief.org.in. USIEF seeks result-oriented candidates with professional experience and a desire to excel in the following position:

Basic Functions of the Position:
The USIEF Senior Program Officer (SPO) supports the network of five USIEF EducationUSA Advising Centers (EACs) throughout India by promoting U.S. higher education to foster bilateral student mobility and advance the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs’ (ECA) public diplomacy efforts. In collaboration with the Regional Educational Advising Coordinator (REAC), the SPO assists in the provision of resources and training for USIEF advisers, monitors annual strategic plans, liaises with local secondary and tertiary education institutions to promote U.S. higher education opportunities, identifies innovative platforms and tools to reach out to non-traditional audiences, and liaises with U.S. institutions of higher education to facilitate recruitment and admission of foreign students and increase student mobility.  The SPO is based in New Delhi and supervises the EducationUSA@USIEF Delhi team.

The position reports to the USIEF Deputy Director. The position involves occasional overnight travel, prolonged hours and weekends.     

Major duties and responsibilities include:

  • Provide support for outreach and advising activities at USIEF EducationUSA advising centers throughout India. Develop tools and resources for advisors, provide guidance, and answer questions in a timely manner. Travel to USIEF advising centers as needed.
  • Develop and monitor the country strategic plan and budget in coordination with REAC, Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Embassy, and USIEF senior management and EducationUSA advisers throughout India.
  • Coordinate with all USIEF Education USA centers to produce annual work plans.
  • Liaise with the Indian education community to promote U.S. higher education and EducationUSA advising services.
  • Manage large scale events that support program objectives.
  • Support U.S. institutions of higher education for successful recruitment and admission of Indian students; provide information of changes in local educational system which may influence student mobility.
  • Help develop an over-all marketing plan for EducationUSA@USIEF to ensure greater outreach to students, parents, institutions and the media.
  • Coordinate virtual and social media presence of EducationUSA in India.
  • Mentor the entire EducationUSA@USIEF team.  Provide support to REAC in designing and delivering tailored adviser training programs.
  • Manage the Delhi EducationUSA team. Ensure robust performance from staff through effective goal-setting, reviews and feedback.
  • Ensure access to up-to-date information on education advising to EducationUSA staff through regular correspondence and in-service training opportunities.
  • Develop and deliver robust revenue targets for EducationUSA@USIEF.
  • Ensure high quality monthly, quarterly and annual reports.
  • Liaise with other independent EducationUSA centers in India for coordinating country wide events, such as university fairs, and to assist with training.
  • Perform other duties and functions as assigned by USIEF Executive Director and/or Deputy Director.

Required Qualifications and Skills:

Education:  Master’s Degree, preferably from an accredited U.S. college or university or with considerable educational experience in the United States.

Experience:

  • Minimum five years of professional experience in international education, program management, international relations or related field.
  • Comprehensive understanding and ability to describe and compare U.S. and Indian educational systems.
  • Supervisory experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Fluency in Written and Spoken English.
  • Knowledge of both U.S. and Indian cultures with experience living, working, or studying in both.
  • Strong interpersonal communication, analytical, written and oral presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to use Microsoft Office, social media and other Web 2.0 tools.
  • Strong organizational, problem solving, and time management skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Supervisory and training experience.
  • Ability to forge connections and work cooperatively with partners and stakeholders from various sectors.

Compensation:  Rs. 12.51 Lakhs per annum  plus Annual Benefits (approx. Rs. 3.85 Lakhs per annum)
