WRI-China Sustainable Transition Center is seeking a Transport Research Analyst.

The major responsibility of the Research Analyst is to conduct research to support our work to accelerate the decarbonization of the transportation sector, with a focus on the market for zero-emission heavy-duty vehicles, to contribute to the sustainable transport transition in China and globally. The ideal candidate should be interested in research into policy recommendations and driving changes in the transportation sector. The successful candidate will join a team that will work in a multidisciplinary platform in WRI, to (i) translate big ideas into actions; (ii) strengthen capacity for addressing transportation problems in China and beyond.

Responsibilities :

  • Conduct independent quantitative research on policies and practices aimed at limiting the environmental impacts of the road transport sector with a focus on zero-emission heavy-duty vehicles, including but not limited to review and summarize technical and scientific literature and international progress, developing quantitative methods, analyzing policies, and drawing practical recommendations.
  • Write or co-write reports, working papers, and other technical documents to communicate research findings.
  • Prepare presentations and communicate research results in external and internal workshops.
  • Support project management, conduct surveys and field visits with project partners, organize project meetings, take meeting notes and follow-up as necessary.
  • Help organize external events, workshops, conferences, and prepare news releases.

Qualifications and Requirements :

  •  Master's or PhD degree in civil engineering, environmental engineering/science/ policy, transportation engineering/planning, energy systems, public policies or related fields, with strong technical understanding and/or interest in the transport sector, with new energy vehicles as a plus.
  • At least 3 years of highly relevant and full-time work experience in the transportation/environment field.
  • Excellent analytical and quantitative research skills, proficient in data analysis, preferably with publication experience.
  • Excellent in oral and written Chinese with strong interpersonal skills, with good work ethics and able to deliver under tight deadlines.
  • Quicker learner with ability to work independently with limited supervision; be highly organized, self-directed, and strategic in problem solving.
  • Flexibility to travel nationally and internationally.
  • Fluency in written and spoken Mandarin and English is mandatory.
