Afghan Grassroots Organizations can submit a Project Proposal for a Grant Opportunity

To help alleviate the humanitarian and economic crisis in Afghanistan, Uplift is accepting applications from local non-governmental grassroots organizations active in Afghanistan for a grant program.

The project should address ways to help alleviate the current predicaments in Afghanistan in the areas of poverty alleviation, economic opportunities for vulnerable populations, health, or education.

Focus Areas

The grants will be provided in the following general areas of work:

  • Poverty Reduction: Solutions to help alleviate hunger in the country, e.g. grain banks.
  • Health and Nutrition: Projects related to maternal, infant and children’s health, sanitation and disease prevention concepts, and other health related projects.
  • Education and Vocational Training: Initiatives for girls’ education, women and children’s education, including vocational training opportunities.

Funding Information

  • Uplift is determined to provide up to five separate grants in the amount of $10,000 USD/each. Subject to the nature and duration of your project concept, and subject to funds availability, there may be a possibility of increasing the grant amount.
  • Eligibility Requirements
  • Interested local grassroots organizations have to meet the following minimum criteria:
  • Actively operating in the country in the humanitarian, development and/or service delivery sectors.
  • Proven track record of implemented projects and accountable financial and procurement management.
  • Anti-discriminatory rules and regulations with regards to ethnicity, gender, age, etc.

Selection Criteria and Process

The Uplift selection committee will review each proposal based on the following criteria:

  • Project plan.
  • Project sustainability.
  • Focus on poverty alleviation, youth engagement, equity, and diversity.
  • The Uplift selection committee will review all  applications and will contact shortlisted organizations for interviews. Please note that only shortlisted organizations will be contacted.  All organizations will undergo a thorough vetting process before final selection. Reporting requirements will be detailed in the grant agreements. The awardee will collaborate with Uplift upon award to develop a brief set of indicators to permit monitoring of project activity and outcomes. More detail on this collaborative process will be provided upon award.
