Detailed Description

IDS is pleased to offer scholarships for the master's programmes for the academic year 2015-16. These include two full scholarships, two full tuition fee scholarships and two partial awards of £7,500.
 
Commonwealth Shared Scholarship Scheme (CSSS)
 
The Shared Scholarship Scheme is a joint initiative between the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission (with funding from the Department for International Development) and UK universities, to support scholarships for students from developing Commonwealth countries who would not otherwise be able to study in the United Kingdom.
 
IDS is offering one award for candidates from any eligible African Commonwealth country with an offer of a place on the following courses:
 
MA Development Studies
MA Gender and Development
MA Globalisation, Business and Development
MA Governance and Development
MA Participation, Power and Social Change
MA Poverty and Development

The University of Sussex is offering one award for candidates from any eligible *Commonwealth Country with an offer of a place on MSc in Climate Change and Development.
 
Eligibility Criteria
All candidates must:

  1.  be nationals of (or permanently domiciled in) a Commonwealth developing country, and not currently be living or studying in a developed country; 
  2.  hold a first degree at either first or upper second class level; 
  3. be sufficiently fluent in English to pursue the course, 
  4. have not previously studied for one year or more in a developed country; 
  5. be able to confirm in writing that neither they or their families would otherwise be able to pay for the proposed course of study; 
  6. be willing to confirm that they will return to their home country as soon as their period of study is complete.

 
Application and selection
Applications must be made through the Commonwealth Secretariat Electronic Application System, which can be accessed at: http://cscuk.dfid.gov.uk/apply/eas/applicants/sharedscholarships/.
The closing date for receipt of applications is 31 March 2015. Please note that any applications received after this date will not be considered.
A formal offer of a place (either conditionally or unconditionally) from the University of Sussex must be secured on the MSc in Climate Change and Development, by the closing date. Please note, applicants who apply directly for an award without first applying to IDS/University of Sussex, will not be considered for an award. The University of Sussex will select a number of nominees and reserves for recommendation to the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission. Once a nomination has been approved by the CSC, the candidate will be notified in writing not later than July 2015. Please note that: until receipt of the formal scholarship offer letter candidates should not make irreversible preparations to leave for the UK, and all flights must be booked by the nominating institution.
