The United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) is offering grants for strengthening early warning and early action systems for meteorological, hydrological and climate extremes.
The United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) is the United Nations’ focal point for the coordination of disaster risk reduction, working with countries and a broad range of partners and stakeholders to support the implementation, monitoring and review of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030 in coherence with the 2030 Agenda and other instruments, for the multi-hazard management of disaster risk in development and the substantial reduction of disaster risk and losses.
Purpose
The project aims to strengthen national capacities and coordination for climate, weather, and hydrological services in Somalia.
Funding Information
The duration of the proposed project cannot exceed 18 months. The maximum amount requested from UNDRR for the implementation of this project cannot exceed USD 50,000.
Suggested Activities
Organizing capacity building workshops for national institutions in priority technical areas (observation, data management and analysis, meteorological and hydrological forecasting).
Supporting national workshops on early warning systems under operationalization of the National Emergency Operations Centre /Multi-hazard Early Warning Centre.
Logistical support for UNDRR and hired an international firm in organizing technical workshops and meetings.
Outcome
Strengthening regional coordination and cooperation for effective EWS (Early Warning System) and climate services through on-ground support for implementation of CREWS (Climate Risk Early Warning Systems) (Climate Risk Early Warning Systems) Horn of Africa (HoA) project in Somalia.
Output
Institutional support to Somalia.
Criteria
Projects’ activities can include, amongst others, the following:
seminars, workshops, trainings;
capacity building activities;
institutional strengthening activities; and
advocacy.
The following types of activity will not be covered:
capital expenditure, e.g., land, buildings, equipment, and vehicles;
individual scholarships for studies or training courses;
