Detailed Description

The High Commission of Canada in Kenya has launched 2016-2017 call for proposals for its Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI) with an aim to support gender equality and empowerment of women and girls. The call for proposals seeks projects that are of a maximum duration of six (6) months, with activities completed by February 28, 2017.


  • Championing inclusive and accountable governance, peaceful pluralism and respect for diversity, and human rights: Improve governance mechanisms, processes and  institutions that make governments accountable to citizens and support the ability of individuals, particularly women and girls, to participate in the governance and development of their own societies.
  • Promoting gender equality and empowerment of women and girls: Advance gender equality to allow women and men to enjoy the same status and have equal opportunities.
  • Addressing climate change and enhancing environmental sustainability: Enable communities to mitigate climate-related risks and encourage information-sharing, capacity development to foster the adoption of climate change adaptation. 
  • Stimulating sustainable and green economic growth: Support legislation, as well as industrial and financial policy and frameworks upon which sustainable growth can take place
  • Promoting stability and security: Stabilization efforts help states build resilience and prevent and reduce violence, conflict and fragility. Support women’s participation in peace
    and security efforts and protecting women and girls from all forms of violence, including sexual violence in conflict and post-conflict

Funding Information

The average contribution is expected to be in the range of CAD $15,000-$20,000 for each individual project. Larger projects may be considered on an exceptional basis.

The CFLI proposals must address identified needs of local communities in one of the following countries (mentioned below).
