International Climate Initiative’s
Type of work: Project and Program Management
Relevent Country: Germany
Last Date: 13-12-2022
The International Climate Initiative is seeking applications for the Medium Grants Programme.
The goals of the IKI Medium Grants are to test innovative bottom-up approaches to fulfilling the Paris and CBD Agreements, which can be taken up by other non-governmental actors, to strengthen capacities (of the implementing organizations and partners as well as other civil society actors in the partner countries as knowledge carrier and implementation partner in the climate area) as well as the global networking of civil society between North and South.
The IKI Medium Grants funding programme therefore addresses civil society actors based in Germany by the time of the grant approval that work in collaboration with local partners in selected ODA-eligible implementing countries to put measures in place to intensify North-South cooperation on climate action, adaptation to the impacts of climate change and biodiversity conservation. The programme explicitly aims to strengthen civil society actors and their international networks. Specifically, IKI Medium Grants support project activities that address innovative, bottom-up contributions for implementing the Paris Agreement and the Convention on Biological Diversity. To achieve this, varying funding priorities are set each year, for which interested parties can apply with innovative project ideas.
The program is thus intended to contribute to picking up on civil society voices Partner governments in the overall societal transformation process towards CO2 neutrality as well as internationally networked civil society cooperation on climate protection and adaptation to climate change and biodiversity conservation
The IKI is implemented by the Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection (BMWK) in close cooperation with them Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection (BMUV) and the Federal Foreign Office (AA).
Thematic Funding Priorities
Through thematic and country-specific calls, IKI primarily funds large-volume projects that aim to accelerate the transformation to a sustainable, low-emissions economy and supply structure. However, implementing the Paris Agreement and the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) also requires increasing the capacity of smaller civil society actors in developing and emerging countries as well as the effective participation of all social groups. This is exactly where the IKI programmes for small projects come in.
