Project Overview and Role

The Humanitarian and Stabilisation Operations Team, contracted by Palladium International Ltd, provides the both Department for International Development (DFID) with humanitarian services and the UK Government's Stabilisation Unit (SU) with stabilisation support. The SU is a cross-government unit which supports the UK government efforts to tackle instability overseas and is located in the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO), London SW1. The SU maintain a standby roster of administrative officers to assist with contracting and deployments. We call on members of the standby roster as and when the need arises. In this latest series of recruitment's, we are looking for highly able administrators who are prepared to be security cleared in advance of potential need, and who if contracted will be able to work in a busy and responsive team at the heart of government.

Periods of work could range from a few weeks to several months. The roles are based in London.

There is no guarantee that membership of the roster will result in the offer of work. However membership of the roster makes a work offer more likely because security clearance, which can take several months to process, has already been obtained.


  • The role involves supporting the SU as it serves the rest of Government (particularly DFID, MOD, FCO) in its efforts to tackle instability overseas. The type of work typically includes one or more of the following:
  • Assisting with the contracting and deployment of Deployable Civilian Experts to a variety of conflict-related roles either in the UK or overseas, particularly in countries in conflict.
  • Assisting with the maintenance of a database of Deployable Civilian Experts.
  • Assisting with financial administration.
  • Other administrative support related to the above.


Essential Qualifications, skills and experience:

  • Degree level education or substantial relevant experience
  • Proven ability in accurate, high quality administration
  • Good communication skills with the ability to build effective relationships
  • Demonstrable organisation and time management skills, and ability to work under pressure
  • Experience or a previous career in relevant work such as conflict-related, humanitarian or government is desirable but not essential.
