Job Description

Organizational Setting

The main aim of the FAO country offices, which are headed by an FAO Representative, is to assist governments to develop policies, programmes and projects to achieve food security and to reduce hunger and malnutrition, to help develop the agricultural, fisheries and forestry sectors, and to use their environmental and natural resources in a sustainable manner.

Reporting Lines

Under the overall supervision of the FAO Representative in Pakistan, the direct supervision of the Assistant FAO Representative (Programme) and in close coordination with Statistician and National Focal Point for Food Security and Nutrition Information System, the Agricultural Economist will undertake the following duties:

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Study and analyse literature and reports on Food Security and Nutrition Information System (FSNIS), Global Food Outlook and Agricultural Outlook
  • Analyse secondary data related to food security, nutrition, food prices, and agriculture
  • Prepare analytical products of FSNIS especially focussing on National Food Outlook Reports in close collaboration with FSNIS stakeholders
  • Organize and contribute in capacity building trainings related to FSNIS analytical products
  • Organize meetings/workshops related to FSNIS analytical products
  • Perform any other tasks related to FSNIS

Minimum Requirements

  • Post-graduate or equivalent degree in Agricultural Economics, Economics, or Econometrics
  • At least 5 years working experience with UN and/or international/national organizations
  • Fluency in written and spoken English

Technical/Functional Skills

  • Good interpersonal skills with experience in networking with partners at all levels (ministry, donors, private sector, NGOs etc);
  • Experience in the preparation of technical and policy reports, guidelines and manuals
  • Proficient in using advance statistical tools like SPSS, STATA etc
  • Proficient in applying appropriate econometric models for time-series and cross-sectional data
  • Excellent analytical and writing skills
  • Computer skills in Office Applications including Excel, Word, Outlook, Power Point
  • Ability as well as experience to engage professionally with a wide range of stakeholders and people of different national and cultural backgrounds and have strong communication skills and strong spirit of teamwork.
  • Willing to undertake visits as required
