Under the minimum supervision of the Supervisor, will undertake Socio-economic Market and Gender research studies related to IRRI-PPP and publish and communicate results. He/ She will actively integrate socioeconomic, Market, and Gender research within the PPP project partners in Bangladesh. The position will contribute to supporting the partners in developing gender-responsive product profiles through the generation and validation of socioeconomic and Market data and consultations with private partners.

This position will be based at the IRRI Country Office, Dhaka, Bangladesh, and may only be filled by permanent citizens of Bangladesh.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Work with the project management team and private partners and specialists to ensure strong integration of Socio-economic Market and Gender research with a coherent approach to achieving the strategic objectives of the project.
  • Facilitate the planning, designing, and implementation of qualitative and quantitative surveys and other activities related to PPP Partners.
  • Perform and teach data analysis using the most appropriate and advanced statistical tools to support Partners.
  • Contribute to developing scientific publications, communication products, and research proposals, including review of related literature, selecting adequate research tools and sampling methods, verifying suggested methodologies, and establishing parameters.
  • Assist in strengthening the technical capacity of IRRI and its partners to use advanced tools and methods for Socio-economic Market and Gender research.
  • Communicate with internal and external project partners and collaborators to gather feedback and exchange conceptual ideas and other research-related requirements for the project's advancement.
  • Maintain regular contact with the HQ and other Country Office specialists and partners to ensure activities are implemented as planned and reporting deadlines are regularly met.
  • Organize regular meetings with partners and stakeholders to discuss, streamline, and implement activities.
  • Provide assistance and guidelines to internal and external partners considering the implementation of surveys and other research activities, including logistics.
  • Monitor, evaluate and provide recommendations to improve research activities/tasks performed by survey enumerators and partner staff to maintain the smooth conduct of mixed-methods surveys and foster a productive working environment.
  • Coordinate with required IRRI services and supplies to ensure smooth implementation of surveys.
  • Assist implementing partners in organizing pieces of training or demonstrations.
  • Undertake literature reviews, prepare contextual analysis based on the program/project research needs.
  • Prepare and submit updated research outputs in a timely manner.
  • Evaluate, validate, and contribute to interpreting results and writing manuscripts for reports/publications and presentations/posters for national and international conferences.
  • Contribute to publishing research results in high-quality disciplinary and interdisciplinary journals.
  • Supervise and lead the maintenance of accurate data recording and update database for efficient storage and retrieval of information
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisor from time to time

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Agricultural Economics, development economics, or social sciences; preferred disciplines include applied economics, sociology and rural sociology, anthropology, market research, and or gender studies, which provides suitable basic knowledge; and a minimum of five years relevant work experience. or,
  • Master’s Degree in Agricultural Economics, development economics, or social sciences; preferred disciplines include applied economics, sociology and rural sociology, anthropology, market research, and or gender studies, which provides suitable basic knowledge; and three years of relevant work experience
  • A PhD degree in socio-economic, market, or gender research and experience working in an international work environment

Skills Required:

  • Has strong knowledge and extensive experience in research on socioeconomic, market, and gender
  • Has a deep understanding of mixed methods research
  • Has strong knowledge and experience in designing questionnaires, planning and implementing surveys, and conducting focus group discussions.
  • Has strong knowledge and experience in collecting and managing survey data and analyzing socioeconomic data using appropriate and advanced statistical methods and tools
  • Has strong knowledge and experience using online survey tools such as SurveyBee, KoboCollect, etc.
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Computer literate and proficient in qualitative and quantitative data analysis using software such as SPSS and STATA.
  • Has good presentation skills
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Can multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment
  • Can effectively establish priorities and meet deadlines
  • Excellent technical report and journal article writing skills.
