IFC is currently seeking an Associate Operations Officer for Western Europe to support the Country Manager in the duty station and be responsible for sourcing transactions from strategically selected non-client corporates in Western Europe and, in collaboration with the regional and the industry departments, selectively support the execution of transactions. Transactions shall be sourced in the following industry areas: Financial Institutions, Infrastructure and Natural Resources, Manufacturing, Agribusiness and Services and Telecommunications and Venture Capital.

Duties and Accountabilities

  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding of finance and financial services. Broad sector experience in Infrastructure and Natural Resources is critical, other industry sector experience would be beneficial
  • Proactively identify potential investment opportunities based on industry experience, reputation, market potential, financial capability, and strategic fit
  • Support effective client management and project execution
  • Assess the attractiveness of specific investment opportunities with a strong focus on credit quality and development impact, analyzing historical and projected financial statements and conducting industry and market research and assist in IFC’s Western Europe business development efforts
  • When required, take leadership roles in transactions and develops appropriate financial structures for straightforward and more complex transactions
  • Work closely with IFC’s specialists and other relevant staff to manage environmental, social, technical, legal, insurance, corporate governance, and other risks in projects and champion IFC’s sustainability offerings to clientsPrepare documentation for IFC internal processes
  • Participate in negotiations, use negotiation skillsAssist the Country Manager for Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Czech Republic, Hungary, and Slovakia in defining and executing business development priorities with selected strategic corporates
  • Under the guidance of the Country Manager and in coordination with Industry colleagues, prepare strategic analysis, business research and client mapping for specific sectors in support of business development, upstream work, and/or to maximize finance for development
  • Support the Country Manager in the development of a comprehensive IFC strategy for the countries in the sub-region; monitor and support the strategy’s implementationCollaborate with relevant IBRD departments
  • Monitor pipeline of current and upcoming projects and provide advice and support to projects as needed. Provide regular updates on transaction pipeline to management
  • Support the Western Europe Regional team and the Industry Team representatives (Financial Institutions, Infrastructure and Natural Resources, Manufacturing, Agribusiness and Services) based in Western Europe in developing strategically selected strong relationships with key counterparts in the private sector as well as with development partners. This shall include establishing and maintaining quality client relationships to ensure responsive client service and to enhance new business opportunities
  • Support the Upstream team on concept and program development, potentially with strategic clients in CWE
  • Assist the Director on relevant matters relating to the Department’s operations such as defining and implementing strategic priorities, develop adequate key performance indicators, as well as monitoring and reporting tools
  • Lead quarterly and monthly reporting of strategic business development activities and implementation of CWE key performance indicators, interact with WB/MIGA, and support HQ requestsDevelop a variety of communication and briefing materials for internal and external audiences
  • Support IFC corporate functions and initiatives as requested by the Country ManagerProvide any other assistance needed by the Country Manager for the day-to-day coordination of activities

Selection Criteria

  • MBA or equivalent qualification with specialization in finance
  • At least 5+ years’ working experience in finance with a proven track-record of supporting the origination and transaction processing process, as well as strategic business development and origination planning
  • Experience in investment transactions, with proven success in developing client relationships as well as sourcing, negotiating, structuring and processing quality investments (knowledge of and experience in emerging markets a plus)Strong business judgment in identifying potential business partners
  • Robust financial and credit skills, sound business judgmentStrong internal as well as external client relationship skills, track record and ability to focus on client needs effectively
  • Highly motivated, committed to highest ethical standards, strong interpersonal and leadership skills, ability to work successfully in multicultural teams and across boundaries
  • Excellent organizational, administrative and time management skills
  • Proven ability to work independently and deliver promptly and efficiently under pressure and meet tight deadlines
  • Willingness to travel throughout the sub-regionExcellent verbal and written communication skills in German (prerequisite) and English
