Biodiversity Coordinator

The Biodiversity Coordinator will lead the planning, development, implementation, monitoring, reporting, and evaluation of IUCN’s biodiversity and protected and conserved areas work in Viet Nam, including application of the IUCN Green List (GL) to assess protected area management effectiveness. He/she will lead proposal preparation and fund raising, and represent IUCN externally to government, donors, and other partners.

Specific Duties:

Project specific:

  • Lead all PCA and IUCN GL-related activities, including use of the GL tool for site assessments, especially those that are part of the WWF-led USAID Biodiversity Conservation Activity, which intervenes in the Greate Annamites.
  • Supervise the Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund (CEPF) National Coordinator to ensure smooth implementation of CEPF activities.
  • Lead the biodiversity monitoring component of the SNV-led IKI VN-ADAPT, which intervenes in the Mekong Delta and Central Highlands.
  • Lead implementation of the FFI-led UK DEFRA Biodiverse Landscapes Fund (BLF), which intervenes in Pu Mat and Chu Mom Ray.
  • Lead the preparation of Nature for Health activities, which is currently in scoping phase, in coordination with UNDP.

Programmatic:

  • Work with line managers to expand IUCN’s work on biodiversity and protected areas in ways that play to IUCN’s strengths as a knowledge and learning organization.
  • Work with line managers to prepare funding proposals in line with IUCN’s priorities and areas of expertise.
  • Liaise with MARD and MONRE to ensure effective communication and coordination on project design
  • and delivery, including GEF and GCF projects.
  • On a monthly basis, capture project impacts in web stories and other communications products to
  • assist learning and outreach.
  • Represent IUCN to internal and external audiences, including government, donors, embassies, and
  • other partners.

Other Duties:

  • Carry out any other duties you may be called upon to perform from time to time by your supervisor

Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in environmental sciences, environmental policy, natural resources management, Biological Sciences or other relevant majors;
  • At least eight years’ experience working on different aspects of biodiversity conservation and project management in Viet Nam;
  • Knowledge of Protected and Conserved Area management related issues;
  • Strong government relations;
  • Interpersonal and community stakeholder engagement skills;
  • Intellectual curiosity and analytical skills;
  • Excellent communications skills in both Vietnamese and English;
  • Proficiency in the use of office IT application.
