Job Description

We are currently looking for Chief of Party to be based in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

Role Purpose

Save the Children is pursuing to lead several critical initiatives under USDA for the McGovern Dole Food for Education and Children Nutrition Programs in several country locations to be determined. The senior leadership position, Chief of Party (COP), will provide overall strategic direction in the design, management, implementation and overall quality assurance of the project overseas. S/he will also provide technical assistance on food security, hunger reduction, literacy improvement, primary education and community participation. The COP will be Save the Children's primary point of contact with USDA.

Please note that the position is contingent upon receipt of the award from the donor.

In the event of a major humanitarian emergency, the role holder will be expected to work outside the normal role profile and be able to vary working hours accordingly.

Qualifications and experience


  • 10 years of management experience in education, social projects or a related field
  • Demonstrated expertise in educational methodologies on behavior change
  • Experience in the design and development of training plans for institutional personnel
  • Skills and hands-on knowledge on advising, mentoring and training program staff
  • Previous experience as a Chief of Party for USAID or USDA programs preferred Experience working in (specified country), or the region is a plus
  • Familiarity with and commitment to addressing gender equality in programming
  • Demonstrated Skills in strategic and program planning
  • Proven ability in promoting and collaborating closely with country governments, the community and donor counterparts at all levels
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to lead and work effectively in team settings
  • Excellent oral and written English communication skills
  • Excellent negotiation and conflict resolution abilities
  • Ability to communicate effectively with diverse actors and audiences
