Job Description

Chemonics seeks a chief of party for the anticipated USAID-funded Karnali Water and Sanitation Activity in Nepal. Valued between $10 to $25 million, this five-year Activity will create healthy, resilient, and water-secure communities at the watershed level through strengthened water and sanitation governance that improves water resource management, enhances sustainable access to drinking water, improves agriculture water management, and promotes fecal sludge management. We are looking for individuals with a passion for making a difference in the lives of people around the world.

Responsibilities include:

  • Provide overall technical and administrative leadership and expertise for the Activity and serve as the primary liaison with USAID on strategic, managerial, and technical matters
  • Oversee all contractual and budgetary aspects of program management
  • Professionally represent Chemonics to USAID, the Government of Nepal, local partners, and other program stakeholders
  • Ensure that monitoring and evaluation, reporting, and work planning activities accurately and professionally reflect program activities and achievements
  • Monitor and, where necessary, modify programmatic assistance to achieve results, ensuring relevant, productive, and complementary activities are implemented effectively
  • Ensure the Activity meets high-quality performance and integrity standards that comply with Chemonics and USAID policies and regulations
  • Must have demonstrated ability to effectively establish and maintain relationships with national and local government officials, civil society organizations, local partners, and other development partners and USAID implementers


  • Advanced degree in international development, environmental or civil engineering, public health, business administration, or another related field
  • A minimum of ten years of relevant technical experience in water resource management, WASH governance, fecal sludge management, and sustainable access to water
  • Proven leadership in the design, management, implementation, and monitoring and evaluation of donor-funded programs
  • USAID chief of party experience preferred, or other management experience for efforts of similar scope, size (e.g., budget, personnel), and complexity (e.g., project director, regional or country director)
  • Extensive experience working with counterparts at various levels in a development context
  • Experience in South or Southeast Asia is required; experience in Nepal is highly desired
  • Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity
  • Fluency in English is required; fluency in Nepali is strongly desired
