The United Nations Environment Program (UN Environment) is the world's leading environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system, and serves as a authorized global environmental advocate.

The United Nations Regional Environment Office for Latin America and the Caribbean (ROLAC), located in Panama City, works closely with the 33 countries of the region, including 16 small island developing States, with a population of approximately 588 million people. The office works to meet the needs of the region and its activities are integrated into the work programs approved by the United Nations Environment Assembly of UN Environment.

The entire recruitment and selection process is a service provided by UNOPS to the UNEP Agency under the support of the Global Cooperation Agreement between both agencies. The selection and supervision of personnel is the direct responsibility of UNEP.

Functional Responsibilities

In order to guarantee the long-term sustainability of the interventions, in addition to institutional strengthening and incentive programs, the project will develop a strategy and a comprehensive and interactive knowledge management plan that seeks to consolidate technical knowledge and public opinion on the actions proposed by the Government through the ENBCS.

For this, the project requires the support of a Communication Assistant to develop a communication strategy and support the knowledge management plan.

Under the direct supervision of the Project Coordinator, the Communications Assistant will perform the following functions:

Support in the Planning, monitoring and evaluation of the Communication Strategy

  • Collaborate with the Knowledge Management Assistant and in coordination with the Project Coordinator in the establishment of the objectives and the design of the project communication and knowledge management strategy (including the components of the executing partners) .
  • Provide support in the identification of priority audiences for the project's internal and external communications at the national level, the construction of a map of actors and a relationship plan.

Presentation of information to stakeholders:

  • Exposing the data and information generated when required
  • Collaborate with communication material for periodic reports to the FVC

Monitoring and monitoring of progress

  • Performance evaluation
  • Meetings to present progress with the direct supervisor when necessary.


  • Complete high school studies are required.
  • Bachelor's degree preferably in Marketing, Journalism, Communications, Graphic Design, Design or Audiovisual Communication and photography, is desirable.
  • Higher studies, at the master's level, in communication-related topics will be valued.


  • A minimum of 4 years of relevant support and / or support experience is required in the area of ​​social communication, communication for development, and / or corporate communication.
  • It is desirable that you have experience in situations of reputational crisis.
  • Desirable experience in the coordination and technical management of projects in the field of organizations in both the public and / or private sector and / or international organizations.
  • Desirable experience in organizations of the United Nations System or in international organizations.
  • The presentation of communication products designed and implemented (Strategies, Communication Plans, communication products such as videos, publications, among others) will be valued.
