Norwegian People's Aid is a humanitarian organisation rooted in the Norwegian Labour Movement. We work with International Development Partnerships, Humanitarian Mine Action, Rescue Service and First Aid, and Asylum and Integration. Norwegian People's Aid has about 12000 members in Norway and 2400 staff worldwide. We work in 36 countries around the world, and in 2018 we will have an expected turnover of 1000 MNOK.
Humanitarian Disarmament's vision is a world where people and communities are safe, resilient and protected before, during and after armed conflict. Together with national authorities and other stakeholders, we are working to resolve problems faced by local communities caused by landmines and other explosive remnants of war. Currently NPA has more than 25 Humanitarian Disarmament Programmes ongoing in the Balkans, Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Middle East.
The Tajikistan programme has a total of 60 employees, both national and international. We are looking for someone with strong leadership capabilities, strategic and analytical skills and good understanding for and experience in mine action. This position will provide you with the opportunity to lead and engage in an exciting and challenging programme. The overall long-term goal of the Norwegian People's Aid Programme in Tajikistan is that mines, cluster munitions and other explosive weapons no longer expose civilians to unacceptable risk or hinder economic, social and political development in Tajikistan.
Duties and responsibilities:
The Country Director has the overall responsibility for all aspects of the programme: operations, personnel, finance, logistics and security. Other regional or global responsibilities and tasks may be included subject to instructions from the Department for Humanitarian Disarmament. The Country Director will be stationed in Dushanbe, Tajikistan.
The position requires management experience as well as good operational understanding. A proven track record of constructive stakeholder dialogue and fundraising is required. Furthermore the position requires:
Desirable: Experience and knowledge from policy work in development countries, humanitarian aid and/or humanitarian disarmament/mine action sector is an advantage. The ideal candidate has good political intuition, an understanding of political processes and ability to process sensitive information with discretion. It is also desirable with knowledge of Tajik or Russian language.
