Who we are:

ACGF – Afghan Credit Guarantee Foundation (ACGF) is a charitable foundation based in Cologne with a second office in Berlin, Germany. Our mission is to improve access to finance for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Afghanistan by providing credit guarantees and technical assistance to partner financial institutions, as well as grants for MSMEs.

Established in 2014, ACGF launched its operations in January 2015 as an institutional successor of the Credit Guarantee Facility for Afghanistan (CGF-A). Our funders are DEG – Deutsche Investitions- und Entwicklungsgesellschaft mbH (member of the KfW Group), the German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), the World Bank and the European Union. ACGF is supported by its Afghan subsidiary SCSA – SME Client Support Afghanistan LLC.

We are looking for a Data and Process Automation Analyst (f/m/*) in Berlin to support our Transactions Management Department for 40 hours per week. The position is a parental leave replacement and offered as 15-months fixed-term contract.

What You`ll do:

You will be responsible for analyzing, automating, and improving key operational processes related to guarantee and grant implementation, with a strong focus on data handling, systems usage, and process efficiency.

Your work will directly support the automation of guarantee issuance, monitoring, claims, refunds, and fee invoicing, while strengthening data quality, reporting, and system usage across ACGF and partner institutions.

You will act as a link between the Transactions Department, the Data & Reporting Department, and the MIS system provider, translating operational requirements into technical solutions and enabling practical implementation by staff and partners.

This is a highly hands-on position combining data engineering, process analysis, user support, and operational understanding.


Operational Processing

  • Process guarantees, refunds and fees by collecting, cleaning, and processing operational data from partner institutions and local teams
  • Prepare documentation for decision making and ensure appropriate handling of data within the management information system

Automation & Process Optimization
  • Analyze existing workflows and identify opportunities for digitalization or automation in close coordination with the Data Department, particularly of guarantee issuance, portfolio monitoring, claims and refunds, guarantee fee calculations and invoicing
  • Develop and implement data processing tools (e.g. using Python-based scripts (Pandas, NumPy, OpenPyXL, Power Query, Excel Automation, Automated Validation and reconciliation tools, semi-automated upload and report processes) to reduce manual work
  • Design and document automation scripts for data validation, uploads, and report generation
  • Support teams in adopting new tools and ensure proper documentation and version control

Reporting & Performance Tracking
  • Develop and maintain automated reporting tools and dashboards (Power BI / Excel / Python) for: Guarantee and grant portfolio tracking, Process KPIs (processing time, bottlenecks, compliance gaps), Partner performance and data quality
  • Design standardized reporting templates and data models for operational use
  • Support the preparation of management and donor reports

Capacity Building & Documentation
  • Train ACGF headquarters and local teams on the use of newly developed tools and automated processes
  • Prepare user manuals, step-by-step guides, and process documentation
  • Provide basic troubleshooting and support for tool users
  • Develop simple guides for minor adjustments and maintenance of tools

System & Process Integration
  • Act as a liaison between the Transactions Department and the Data & Reporting Department
  • Translate operational business processes into specific system and data requirements
  • Support the Data Department and MIS provider by:
    • Explaining processes from an operational perspective
    • Helping define system adaptations needed for guarantees and grants
    • Testing new functions and tools from a user perspective
  • Support increased and improved use of the MIS by the operations team

Your Profile:

Education & Experience
  • University degree in economics, data science, information systems, or related field
  • 3 years of experience in data analytics, process improvement, or digitalization within development finance, credit administration or banking

Technical Skills
  • Advanced Excel (Power Query, pivot automation, VBA or similar)
  • Proficiency in Python (Pandas, NumPy, OpenPyXL, data cleaning, automation scripting)
  • Experience with Power BI, Tableau, or similar BI tools
  • Familiarity with SQL or structured databases is an asset
  • Understanding of process mapping, data flow, and reporting structures
  • Understanding of credit, guarantee, or grant processes

  • Structured, reliable, and able to translate complex problems into practical solutions
