Information and Technology Solutions (ITS) enables the WBG to achieve its mission of ending extreme poverty by 2030 and boosting shared prosperity in a sustainable manner by delivering transformative information and technologies to its staff working in over 130 client countries.

The Vice Presidency

ITS services range from: establishing the infrastructure to reach and connect staff and development stakeholders; providing the devices and agile technology and information applications to facilitate the science of delivery through decentralized services; creating and maintaining tools to integrate information across the World Bank Group, the clients we serve and the countries where we operate; and delivering the computing power staff need to analyze development challenges and identify solutions.

ITS is one of three VPUs that have been brought together as the World Bank Group Integrated Services (WBGIS), to provide enhanced corporate core services and enable the institution to operate as one strategic and coordinated entity.

The Department and Unit

The External Solutions (ITSES) is a unit within the Operations & Corporate department (ITSOC) that provides state-of-art information and technology applications to support communications with external audiences, donors, member counties and other key stakeholders. The unit focuses on modernizing the Bank’s digital engagement with the public, external clients, partnerships, and other stakeholders; as well as on managing the Bank’s development data resources and geospatial solutions. This includes support for the external website, Open Data, and more. We work with our clients to design solutions that help enable client responsiveness, improve organizational effectiveness, and manage risks. We are committed to delivering business solutions that deliver value for money while we continue to excel at the basics. And we contribute to providing the Bank with an integrated digital platform that connects policies, processes, people, and knowledge across the institution in a holistic and staff-centric manner.

The ITSES is looking for a Full Stack Developer with specific expertise in the single-page app development, data engineering and data visualization.


You will work with data architects, information architects, visuals designers and other front and back end developers to implement secure and performant applications. Responsibilities include:

  • Determine technical designs for new web applications, emphasizing security, performance, code reuse and cost effectiveness.
  • Designs, modifies, develops, writes and implements software programming applications.
  • Develop custom coding needed to deliver new solutions, in particular in open data custom applications and modules meeting coding standards and being both secure and easy to upgrade.
  • Create sites using JavaScript frameworks like Angular and React, connecting to back-end databases
  • Work with a variety of databases, including SQL, MySQL and NoSQL variants such as MongoDB.
  • Program in multiple languages, especially PHP and Python. Experience with Symfony preferred.
  • Optimize web applications for maximum speed, security and scalability.
  • Ensure that all coding meets World Bank standards for security.
  • Implement front-end coding including html, css and javascript.
  • Collaborate with other team members and stakeholders
  • Work independently on assigned tasks in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Act as a team player with ability to work and communicate effectively with cross-functional teams and a variety of roles
  • Multi-task and work in a fast-paced, demanding, collaborative team on multiple projects at any given time

Selection Criteria

  • Master's degree in Computer Science with 5 years relevant experience or Bachelors Degree in Computer Science with a minimum of 7 years relevant experience.​
  • Solid enterprise level experience in .NET, Tableau charts, D3 charts, maps.​
  • Experience with Web Services, including XML/JSON, SOAP, or RESTful​
  • Expertise in multiple programming languages, including PHP and Python.​
  • Expertise in front-end JavaScript frameworks including Angular and React. Experience with mobile frameworks such as React Native preferred.​
  • Proficient understanding of web markup, including HTML5, CSS3​
  • Understanding of multiple databases, including SQL and MYSQL.​
  • Proficiency in version control system (especially GIT), continuous integration and an understanding of DevOps.
