Job Description

Chemonics seeks a deputy chief of party for an upcoming USAID-funded project in Guatemala. The project will develop a comprehensive response to climate change by improving natural resource management, building technical and institutional capacity, and supporting the implementation of legal and policy frameworks. We are looking for individuals who have a passion for making a difference in the lives of people around the world.

Responsibilities include:

  • Ensure effective coordination and integration across activity components
  • Oversee development and implementation of the monitoring, evaluation, and learning plan, as well as all communications
  • Maintain implementation of activities in the chief of party’s absence


  • Advanced degree (or foreign equivalent) in natural resource management, environmental sciences, policy, business administration, or a related field preferred; bachelor’s degree in a similar field required
  • Minimum of eight years of experience in international program management, preferably including management as deputy chief of party or equivalent
  • Experience in the forestry or water sectors in Guatemala preferred
  • Skills in staff management, project administration, and financial management, including an ability to develop and manage relationships with a diverse set of officials and stakeholders
  • Experience with mechanisms for monitoring and evaluation
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity
  • Fluent Spanish required; fluent English preferred
