Job Description

Background:

UNDP's goal in Europe and Central Asia is to help eradicate poverty in all its forms, accelerate the transition to sustainable development, and make sure countries and people are able to withstand crises and shocks. We work to make sure the most vulnerable and excluded are not left behind, develop game changing solutions to accelerate sustainable development, and promote prevention and preparedness against crises and shocks. As part of this emphasis, the UNDP Istanbul Reginal Hub provides policy and programme support services to its UNDP Country offices in the region. One of these services includes the ‘mine action’ sector and its links to the SDGs; building national institutional capacities; and supporting the implementation of Mine Ban Convention.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • The Internships is designed to complement further development-oriented studies at the graduate-level with practical experience in various aspects of multilateral and interagency technical cooperation. Specifically, the areas of responsibility will include, but are not limited to:
  • supporting the UNDP Development and Mine Action Specialist in preparing reports,
  • liaising with Country Programmes and other UN agencies,
  • collecting/collating mine action related project information,
  • and researching the linkage of mine action to the SDGs.

Competencies:

  • Strong interpersonal skills, communication and diplomatic skills, capacities to work in a team
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Strong analytical, reporting and writing abilities
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office

Required Skills and Experience:

Education:

  • Applicants to the UNDP internship programme must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements:
  • Currently be enrolled in the last year of Bachelor’s degree, or b) be enrolled in a second university degree or higher, or c) have graduated less than a year than a year ago in a relevant field (Gender, Geography, Politics, Economics, Development Studies, etc);

Experience: Previous experience in mine action sector an asset

Language skills: Advanced written and spoken proficiencies in English;
