Job Description

Duties and Responsibilities
Under the direct supervision of Chief Education, the national UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:

  • Provide research support through compilation and management of evidence, data, information, laws and policies about the situation of children in education related areas at both national and sub-national levels;
  • Provide support to the system strengthening and inclusive education as defined in the individual workplan;
  • Provide technical support to partners, various workshops, meetings, and monitoring missions, related to education at both national and sub-national levels and with strong collaboration with the UNICEF- Ho Chi Minh City Office;
  • Provide support, contribute to the development of innovation in education through collaboration with to the Innovation Lab and consultant tools;
  • Provide support for the implementation of the Finnish Natcom project on the children with disabilities and of the Korean Committee for UNICEF on Music Education;
  • Document success/Human Interest Stories, experiences and lessons learned on Education and Innovation and on other projects and to prepare various reports and proposals;
  • Provide support to the identification and sharing of relevant literature, reports, and studies on equity and education system, policy dialogue, inclusive education and any concerns related to children in Viet Nam

Furthermore, UN Volunteers are required to:

  • Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and take active part in UNV activities (for instance in events that mark IVD);
  • Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country;
  • Reflect on the type and quality of voluntary action that they are undertaking, including participation in ongoing reflection activities;
  • Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc.;
  • Assist with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly-arrived UN Volunteers;
  • Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteering, or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever technically possible.

Results/Expected Output:

  • Research and documentation under the education portfolio / programmatic issues, which are supported by the National UN volunteer, are completed and contribute to the achievements of overall expected results for children;
  • Data, information, laws and policies on children at both national and sub-national levels have been compiled, organised, and made available to relevant staff and counterparts and the use of data and information is followed up and tracked/documented;
  • Experience, lessons learned and human interest stories under the education outputs are documented and developed and published;
  • Quality reports are submitted;
  • The innovative documentation tool is established with a number of relevant documents on education  related issues / reform / planning, monitoring and evaluation  of education in Viet Nam;
  • A final statement of achievements towards volunteerism for development especially in education with CSOs during the assignment as well as specific quantification of mobilized volunteers, activities, capacities;
  • A final statement of achievements towards volunteerism for development during the assignment, such as reporting on the number of volunteers mobilized, activities participated in and capacities developed


  • University degree in social sciences and specialization in education issues will be a strong asset;
  • Sound knowledge of the major development issues with regard education issues in Viet Nam;
  • Demonstrated experience in working on education issues for at least five years;
  • Full proficiency in English and Vietnamese, including excellent written and spoken skills in both languages;
  • Strong interpersonal and networking skills;
  • Highly organized and self-motivated;
  • Relevant work experience in communications, public relations, print, broadcast media or digital media;
  • Experience in Facebook and website design and messaging;
  • Experience in creating info graphics;
  • A high level of computer literacy;
  • Demonstrated personal sensitivity and commitment to the values and principles of volunteerism, equity and gender equality and cultural diversity;
  • Prior volunteering experience is an asset;
  • Persons with ethnic minority background are strongly encouraged to apply;
  • Proof of Vietnamese Nationality is required
