UNHCR Thailand is a Multi-Country Operation covering Cambodia, Laos, Thailand and Vietnam. Thailand is neither party to the 1951 Refugee Convention and its 1967 Protocol nor to the Statelessness Conventions; there is no formal legal framework for the protection of refugees and asylum seekers. However, Thailand hosts about 91,000 refugees from Myanmar at the border, with about 5,000 refugees and asylum seekers living in urban areas and 554, 000 stateless persons. UNHCR Multi-Country Operation in Thailand main challenge is to maintain and expand the asylum and protection space in Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam while seeking durable solutions.
2025 marks 50 years of partnership between UNHCR and the Ministry of Interior’s Operational Centre for Displaced Persons (OCDP) and to commemorate this milestone, a one-week visual exhibition will be organized for public viewing. A centre focus of the exhibition will be a series of a large archival collection of mainly photographs that document UNHCR Thailand’s history. In this regard, the UNHCR Thailand multi-country office in Bangkok, Thailand is looking for an Event and Archives Coordination Intern. This internship is a unique opportunity to gain experience in information management within an international organization. The intern will be based in the Thailand Multi-country Office in Bangkok and directly report to the External Relations Officer.
The intern will support coordinating and organizing the exhibition at BACC while curating the archival photographs that documents the 50 year history. Working on site in Bangkok, the intern will select, arrange, and caption images in line with accepted archival standards, ensuring the collection is exhibition ready. With the nature of its work, this internship is not suitable for a remote-working arrangement.
