Job Description

Chemonics seeks a full-time finance manager for its Syria Regional Program, which aims to help build a moderate, inclusive, and stable Syria. The finance manager will lead the project’s finance department to ensure expenses comply with company policies and U.S. and German regulations. We are looking for individuals who have a passion for making a difference in the lives of people around the world.

Responsibilities include:

  • Use strong interpersonal skills to work effectively with all staff and ensure that they fully comply with the project’s financial policies in accordance with company policies and applicable U.S. and German government requirements
  • Liaise directly with any corporate legal advisors who provide input on financial reporting matters to ensure corporate understanding of these requirements; share this information proactively with all Chemonics projects operating in Germany
  • Ensure the project has sufficient funds for operations and programs on a monthly basis; oversee monthly financial projections, wire transfer requests, and bank reconciliation
  • Lead the finance team, and serve as line manager for multiple staff
  • Provide training, guidance, and support for all staff on financial matters; proactively identify formal and informal training opportunities for other staff in these areas
  • Prepare payroll for all employees on a monthly basis
  • With support from other finance team members, prepare relevant payroll and corporate taxes based on documentation provided by and communication with the payroll company


  • University degree in business management or accounting and a Certified Public Accounting certification or a similar certification required
  • Minimum of five years of relevant experience in financial management and administration
  • Minimum of two years of supervisory experience; supervisory experience in a financial role preferred
  • Experience administering a payroll and ensuring compliance with local tax regulations in Germany
  • Ability to work in a professional, cordial manner with fellow staff; visitors; partner institutions, including international and local NGOs; governmental entities; support organizations; and the general public
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision; prioritize multiple work assignments in a fast-paced environment; meet deadlines; and exercise sound, professional judgment that reflects positively on the company
  • Ability to effectively use financial computer software (at a minimum, Microsoft Excel) and basic computer applications, such as Microsoft Office
  • Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity
  • Fluency in English required; proficiency in Arabic preferred
