Treasury is the Vice Presidency, reporting to the Managing Director and World Bank Group Chief Financial Officer, performing treasury functions for the IBRD and IDA and, to varying degrees, for other members of the World Bank Group and other public sector investors. Its activities are organized and grouped into the following departments: Capital Markets & Investment Management, Client Asset Management and Advisory, Treasury Client Solutions and Treasury Operations. 

Treasury (TRE) has been a large and significant player in the international financial markets for over seventy years and has achieved a global reputation as a prudent and innovative borrower, investor and risk manager. Treasury is responsible for: (i) managing approximately $185 billion in assets for the World Bank and other official sector investors; (ii) leading IBRD’s and IDA’s triple-A rated financing programs in international and domestic bond and derivative markets; (iii) conducting asset and liability management for IBRD’s and IDA’s balance sheets; (iv) overseeing the development and outreach related to the financing and hedging products the Bank provides for its developing-country clients; and (v) collaborating with the World Bank member countries to help build their capacity. Staff in Treasury regularly interact and collaborate with other Departments across the Bank and Finance Partners teams.

The Treasury Operations Department (TREOP) provides a full range of operational support for Treasury’s asset management, capital markets and banking businesses. The Department is presently organized in four operational units: Asset and Liability Operations (TREAL), Quantitative Solutions and Analytics (TREQA), Cash and Banking Operations (TREBK), and Financial Technology (TREFT).

Duties and Accountabilities:

The Treasury Operations Chennai is an integral part of TREOP and is responsible for a variety of duties providing vital support across all the four operational divisions. It works closely with the Headquarters in Washington D.C.  Under the guidance and supervision of a Team Leader and /or Functional Lead, the selected candidate will be responsible for specific individual tasks/projects and in executing TREOP’s work program, including the following responsibilities:

  • Provide primary assistance in the implementation of the unit's work program.
  • Assist in sourcing and scheduling interviews for open positions in TRECH team.
  • Maintain current distribution lists, phone/address lists of projects and distribute documents for the team;
  • Process SAP transactions that entail preparing travel requests, expense statements, STTs/STCs appointments and payments, reimbursement requests, and other standard SAP transactions as needed.  Monitor expenses, local payments, including staff reimbursements; 
  • Draft and prepare routine correspondences, memos and presentations.  Manage the flow of information and monitoring/following-up on outstanding issues and deadlines;
  • Assist in preparation and logistical planning for various events e.g. conferences, training, workshops, etc.;
  • Liaise and coordinate with Facilities and IT Departments for logistics and IT assets respectively, for TRECH team members and visitors
  • Liaise with the Bank’s travel offices in making travel arrangements for the Chennai staff and the visiting HQ staff including car bookings and verification of invoices;
  • Handle ad hoc duties as they may be assigned.

Selection Criteria

  • A Bachelor’s Degree. At least 1 year of corporate experience and knowledge of local language (Tamil) is desirable.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written), including ability to draft a variety of correspondence and edit materials using proper grammar, punctuation and style. 
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications – MS- Word, Excel and Power Point.
  • Willingness and interest to learn and expand job scope in the unit, while being flexible to the team's work program requirements. 
  • Strong team player with ability to interact tactfully and effectively with staff within the unit as well as with other units in a multi-cultural environment and willingness to pitch in and help other team members during peak periods. 
  • Proven ability to work independently, judge priorities and organize work accordingly.  Ability to work under time pressure while handling multiple tasks and willing to work overtime on short notice, should the need arise. 
  • Flexibility to work on Singapore or London shift and observe U.S. holiday calendar will be required to meet reporting deadlines along with willingness to travel to Washington DC for training and team projects.
