The Role

  • The role of Global Adviser Gender, Conflict and Fragility contributes to Oxfam’s ambition to advance women’s rights and end all forms of inequality throughout all the work we do. The purpose of the role is to influence and strengthen the quality and impact of Oxfam’s work on gender in fragile and conflict affected contexts (FCACs), both through stand-alone and mainstreaming interventions.
  • This role is particularly focussed on addressing the social norms that underpin fragility and conflict with a recognition that there is a clear interplay between gender-based violence in the household and wider societal violence. We recognise the importance of working with men and transforming harmful norms of masculinities, alongside supporting women’s active participation in conflict resolution and leadership at the local level as part of the wider women, peace and security agenda.
  • The role contributes to PSIT’s three functions: programme support, evidence and external influencing. The post-holder provides technical support/expertise and specialist advice to strengthen programme decision-making and influence programme quality.

What we are looking for

This role will require someone who has in-depth knowledge of the factors driving gender inequalities in fragile and conflict contexts with a postgraduate qualification in gender or a related field of study or equivalent programmatic experience. Proven practical experience of gender equity programme development and delivery in an international development context is essential along with knowledge and experience of applying and mentoring on conflict sensitivity.
