Under the UNDP Country Programme Document for China (2021-2025) as guided by the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (2021-2025), UNDP provides technical advice to international development cooperation institutions in China, to ensure that they support the SDGs, and that their cooperation is green, inclusive, and benefits those who are the most vulnerable.

As part of this, our work involves shaping the policy discourse and practices in China’s development cooperation by providing policy and technical guidance that aligns with international best practices and norms.

In order to further enhance knowledge exchange on UNDP's mandates in China and the cooperation between UNDP and China towards the Chinese constituency in China, towards international partner representation in China as well as towards audiences in partner countries, UNDP China office is hiring an intern to provide technical support.

Specifically, the internship will be sitting within the Global Partnership Cluster and will involve collaborating with other teams within UNDP China. The intern is expected to organize events and engagements, prepare bilingual materials, create audience-targeted outreach contents as well as conduct analytical work on international development cooperation.
Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Under the guidance and supervision of the Government Affairs Officer, the intern is expected to perform the following responsibilities:
  • Contribute to the coordination of South-South Cooperation and Trilateral Cooperation projects for optimal SDG results and impact;
  • Provide administrative and logistical support to liaison, meetings and events with UN agencies, Chinese partners and development partners;
  • Assist in event organization (including agenda design, invitations, knowledge products, speeches, etc.), and prepare audience-targeted communication content for press release and social media, etc.
  • Support research outputs and analytical work on South-South Cooperation and international development cooperation for SDG attainment;
  • Provide translation or interpretation where needed;
  • Support other/ad hoc duties seen as relevant and needed.

Required Skills and Experience:

Education and Experience:

Candidates must meet one of the following educational requirements:

  • Enrolled in a Master's programme; or
  • In the final year of a Bachelor’s programme;
  • Or within one year after graduation from a Bachelor’s or a Master’s programme.
  • Majors in International Relations, International Development, International Communication, Public Policy, Economics or other related fields. An advanced university degree is an asset.
  • Familiarity with UN work, South-South Cooperation and international development is required.

Language and Skills:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
  • Good English-Chinese bi-directional translation and/or interpretation skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office software package (MS Excel, Word, etc.).
  • Skills on visual design will be an asset.
