Duties and Responsibilities
This remote position is located in the Design and Multimedia Unit (DMU) of the Strategic Communications Branch (SCB) within the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA). OCHA is the part of the United Nations Secretariat responsible for bringing together humanitarian actors to ensure a coherent response to emergencies. OCHA also ensures there is a framework within which each actor can contribute to the overall response efforts. OCHA's mission is to mobilize and coordinate effective and principled humanitarian action in partnership with national and international actors in order to alleviate human suffering in disasters and emergencies; advocate the rights of people in need; promote preparedness and prevention and facilitate sustainable solutions. The Strategic Communications Branch (SCB) is OCHA's communications and public advocacy team supporting headquarters and field operations in public outreach on humanitarian action. The Design and Multimedia Unit (DMU) of the Strategic Communications Branch (SCB) leads the development of OCHA's visual information services and products. Within delegated authority, the Graphic Designer will be responsible for the following:
Qualifications/special skills
Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent degree) in graphic design, multimedia design, communications or related field is required. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. A minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in graphic design, information and communication technology, multimedia design, user experience and design or related area. A minimum of 5 years of experience working with Adobe Software applications is required. Submission of a portfolio with samples of work in graphic design is required (link to PDF or website). Experience with the Humanitarian Programme Cycle (HPC) process is desirable. Experience working with graphic design and data analysis in the UN Common System or other comparable international organization is desirable.
