Thinking of a Career in Emergency Management?
- BY Nicole Pelette
OXFAM PURPOSE: To work with others to find lasting solutions to poverty and suffering.
Through mutually beneficial relationships, we seek to create new opportunities for Oxfam to collaborate more effectively with donor partners in tackling poverty and inequality through a variety of different channels – including technical cooperation, learning exchanges, policy dialogue, or generating more resources – in order to improve outcomes for people living in poverty and affected by humanitarian emergencies.Oxfam’s Programme Funding Department is starting an ambitious new three year strategy which seeks to build more strategic partnerships with bilateral and multilateral donor agencies to increase our income, influence, and programme impact. Humanitarian emergencies account for around two thirds of Oxfam’s institutional income, thus this role plays a vital part in growing income levels.
To lead and support others to fund Oxfam’s humanitarian work
Oxfam seeks to appoint a Humanitarian Funding Advisor who will be responsible for coordinating and growing Oxfam’s partnerships UNHCR, WFP, and OCHA. These partnerships will look to deepen and grow our technical, financial and policy cooperation with UNHCR, WFP, and OCHA. We are specifically looking for someone with extensive experience in the humanitarian sector who understands these institutions and how they work; who can foster and build institutional relationships; and who can create and convert new opportunities for both financial and non-financial cooperation.
To achieve our ambitions, the Humanitarian Funding Advisor will be responsible for developing and implementing a donor engagement strategy in order to forge strategic partnerships between Oxfam and UNHCR, WFP, and OCHA, and identify new technical cooperation and funding opportunities. The incumbent will be expected to work within Oxfam GB and across the confederation of OI affiliates in achieving the strategy.
The Humanitarian Funding Advisor will also be responsible for coordininating fundraising and contract management for large humanitarian responses and global humanitarian programmes. They will also advise and support others in the Oxfam confederation on planning, securing, and managing humanitarian funding from a wide range of sources.
The location of this job will be in Oxford and will involve regular short-term travel to the donor offices, as well as some deployments to country programmes in which humanitarian crises are occurring, the latter for up to 6 weeks at a time.
This is a 6 month fixed term opportunity, ideally from 1st July 2016 through to 31st December 2016.
