The mission of WHO’s Health Emergencies Programme (The Programme) is to help countries, and to coordinate international action, to prevent, prepare for, detect, rapidly respond to, and recover from outbreaks and emergencies.
The role of the ICT Officer is to provide technical expertise, tools, methods and means to meet the specific communication needs of the WHO Hub.
Purpose Of The Position
In the context of the WHO Health Emergencies Preparedness and Response (EPR), at the country/hub level, the ICT Officer will conduct and support the set up and management of the Hub services, in full compliance with WHO rules and the associated Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
Description Of Duties
Within the Hub, the ICT Officer will report to the Operations Support and Logistics Officer (1st level supervisor) while under the overall guidance of the Regional Operations and Logistics Support Lead, who will also be the 2nd level supervisor.
The incumbent provides user support for computing facilities, office automation, telecommunication hardware and software, including the adaptation and implementation of Information Communication Technology ICT-related guidelines and protocols for Assignment requires contacts with counterparts at HQ, Regional and Country Offices to ensure effective flow of technical information, including applications such as teleconferences, troubleshooting, GPN, LAN, etc.
Within the framework of the delegated authority, the incumbent is assigned all or part of the following duties which are performed according to the needs and agenda:
Required Qualifications
Education
Essential: A first university degree in Computer Science, Information Communication Technology or closely related field relevant to the position.
Desirable: An advanced level university degree or professional qualification in ICT or Administrative field from an accredited/ recognized institute.
Experience
Essential: At least two (2) years’ related experience and exposure, in managing ICT operations.
Desirable: Related experience with WHO, the UN system, health cluster partners, recognized humanitarian organizations or international nongovernmental organization work.
Skills
Use of Language Skills
Essential: Expert knowledge of English and French.
Desirable: Knowledge of another UN official language would be an asset.
