The Infrastructure Assessment Assistant will participate in a capacity assessment for the Technical Directorate of Nepal Police using the CAT-I methodology developed by UNOPS. The Capacity Assessment Tool for Infrastructure (CAT-I) is a method to assess an institution’s planning, design, procurement, construction, operation, maintenance and decommissioning processes and resources.
The assessment will formulate recommendations for capacity building activities such as reorganisations, recruitments, adoption of new standards and directives, improvement of processes and tools, trainings and material support.
The Infrastructure Assessment Assistant will be responsible for organising and analysing data, documenting interviews and meetings, preparing draft presentations and reports.
The Infrastructure Assessment Assistant’s duties will include:
- Desk reviews: Read and analyse documents related to infrastructure planning, design, procurement, construction, operation and maintenance. Prepare summary notes.
- Documentation: Take interview and meeting minutes. Organise assessment data (contact information, bibliography, thematic issues).
- Presentation: Prepare diagrams and presentations for stakeholder engagement.
- Logistics: Organise interview schedule. Arrange stakeholder meeting and workshop logistics.
Training components and learning elements
- During the performance of his/her duties, the intern will gain exposure to UNOPS operations and will learn the innovative assessment methods developed by the organisation.
- The intern will also get key insights into the workings of the United Nations system as well as the interplay between donor-financing, partnership-building, field-work and the political complexity involved in working at a United Nations organisation.
- To the extent possible, the intern will have full access and be able to participate in the full range of UNOPS training and educational opportunities, including but not limited to: PRINCE2 project management courses, UN field security training, Gender training, sustainable infrastructure and project management techniques and others.
- Bachelor Degree is a minimum requirement and should have graduated from such studies within 3 years prior to the application date of the internship; or,
- Enrolment in, or completion of advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in civil engineering, business or public administration, planning, environment, international studies, communication or in any other relevant area is preferred and may be accepted in lieu or the requirement of a Bachelor’s degree.
- Experience in civil engineering, public policy, sustainability-related work and/or capacity building desirable.
- Experience in report writing, project proposal writing and/or article or research paper publication desirable.
- Proficiency in English required.
- Proficiency in Nepali is desirable.
