Job Description

ABOUT WFP:

The United Nations World Food Programme is the world's largest humanitarian agency fighting hunger worldwide. The mission of WFP is to help the world achieve Zero Hunger in our lifetimes. Every day, WFP works worldwide to ensure that no child goes to bed hungry and that the poorest and most vulnerable, particularly women and children, can access the nutritious food they need.
In September 2016, WFP signed the largest humanitarian deal in European history: a €348 million contract with the European Union to roll out a programme known as the Emergency Social Safety Net (ESSN). ESSN programme in Turkey contributes of the goals laid out in the Grand Bargain. Partnering with the European Commission’s Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid department (ECHO), WFP has joined forces with the Turkish Red Crescent and the Government of Turkey to lessen the suffering of over a million refugees in Turkey.

STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Currently enrolled and have attended University courses in the last 12 months inclusive of having completed at least two years of undergraduate studies or have recently graduated in the last 6 months’
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Power Point);
  • Advanced university degree in social sciences, political sciences /international relations or similar subject matters or first level university degree with additional relevant work experience.
  • Fluency in English both written and oral;
  • Behavioural competencies such as Action Management, Client Orientation, Cognitive Capacity, Innovation, Partnering and Teamwork.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive):

Under the direct supervision of the Senior National Officer, it is expected from the Intern to fulfil the following responsibilities

Prepare a lesson learnt document reflecting:

  • The existing perational and monitoring activities of WFP in the camps
  • Steps that has been fllowed in extending the WFP assistance in more camps in the region
  • Any gaps twards the maintenance/compliance of programme implementation standard operating procedures (SOPs) and WFP’s corporate guidance and tools for in-camps operations;
  • Challenges, bttlenecks or any inconsistencies of translating programme approach in day to day managing of operational activities
  • Any gaps r best practices of coordination between WFP AO and the CP at the field level
  • Any other business around programme operations as required

To conduct the above-mentioned responsibilities the intern is expected to travel to Gaziantep Area Office.

OTHER SPECIFIC JOB REQUIREMENTS:

TRAINING COMPONENTS:

The supervisor will prepare a work plan and coach the Intern throughout the entire assignment. The Intern will be exposed to hands-on experience on-the-job both at country office and field level.

LEARNING ELEMENTS:

At the end of the eight weeks’ assignment, the Intern should have obtained:

  • Good knowledge of WFP corporate guidance and tools, standard operating procedures of the Country Office in forming programme implementation
  • General understanding of WFP overall operations and activities in the region, as well as Headquarters and donor priorities
  • Specific knowledge and experience WFP assisted in-camp operations

DESIRED EXPERIENCES FOR ENTRY INTO THE ROLE:

  • Advanced university degree in social sciences, political sciences /international relations or similar subject matters or first level university degree
  • Fluency in English both written and oral;
  • Proficiency in Windows MS Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook);
  • Behavioural competencies such as Action Management, Client Orientation, Cognitive Capacity, Innovation, Partnering and Teamwork.
