The selected intern will work with research and non-research staff of the Institute to learn about and support the collection, preparation and dissemination of results and innovations of water research for development initiatives. The intern will have opportunities to participate in and learn from action research and related knowledge forums that IWMI co-organizes with partners and collaborators. During the internship period, the intern will be able to gain an insight into working with people from different countries and cultures, and will work closely with the Communication Specialist and report to the Country Representative - Nepal.

The intern will assist in the following areas:

  • Support the Country Representative - Nepal with the preparation of a report on IWMI’s 40-year journey in Nepal.
  • Coordinate with authors in retrieving and compiling reports (institutional reports, research reports, strategic workshop reports, and scientific publications), convene regular meetings, and collect testimonials of partners and stakeholders on IWMI’s work in Nepal and South Asia.
  • Create simple data visuals and standard PowerPoint/Canva/InDesign templates that follow IWMI’s branding guidelines.
  • Complete and file concept notes, consent forms, shot lists and caption sheets as per the guidelines of IWMI’s video workflow process, and coordinate with vendors for footage transfers.
  • Prepare notes and takeaway messages during conferences, workshops and field visits, and gather testimonials of participants.
  • Support the creation of merchandise for various events organized by IWMI’s office in Nepal.
  • Manage photos, video clips, audio bites and design files in the shared drive and ensure consistent naming, metadata tags and version control.
  • Update the Excel/SharePoint register of reports, briefs and journal articles (title, authors, DOI, status, launch date) and flag milestones to the team.
  • Compile press lists, draft pitch emails, schedule interviews and monitor media hits for post event coverage reports.
  • Review the photo archive in the Nepal office, and check the quality of the photographs and sort them for future reference.
  • Retrieve and archive research reports and strategic documents of IWMI’s office in Nepal.

Requirements : 

  • Undergraduates or graduates specializing in the fields of journalism, communications, digital marketing, information technology or a related field.
  • Familiarity with handling different communication/media tools (online, publishing).
  • Familiarity with website management and social media.
  • Hands-on experience with Microsoft Office, InDesign, Photoshop or other publishing tools.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and Nepali.
  • Ability to consistently demonstrate our core values of excellence, collaboration, inclusivity and integrity.
