Job Description


The Organizational Development Section within the Office of Human Resources (OHR), Department of Management Strategy, Policy and Compliance (DMSPC), is seeking interns with a background in organizational development, learning and development, human resources management, industrial/organisational/occupational psychology, and other relevant fields, interested in gaining professional, hands-on experience with organizational development, and learning and development.
The internship is for a minimum of three months with a possibility for extension up to six months. The internship is unpaid and full-time. Interns work up to five days per week (30 hours) under the supervision of seasoned UN HR specialists.
Internships are unpaid and travel costs, travel arrangements (including visas) and living accommodations are the responsibility of the intern.


This opportunity is designed for an intern to work on different aspects on learning and development. This ranges from supporting the design and implementation of initiatives that facilitate continuous learning in the area of leadership and management; the design of an evaluation framework, with emphasis on assessing the impact of key Secretariat-wide learning initiatives; and the establishment and operationalization of a corporate learning strategy., and the design of an evaluation framework, with an emphasis on assessing impact of key Secretariat-wide learning initiatives.


Applicants must meet one of the following requirements:

  • be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
  • be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent);
  • Be computer literate in standard software applications;
  • Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and
  • Have a demonstrated the ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
  • Preference will be given to applicants with an educational background in Education, Industrial/Organisational/Occupational Psychology and Human Resources.


  • No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship.


  • English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this post, Fluency in all four areas of English is required (i.e., speaking, writing, reading, listening). Fluency in French is desirable.
