Early Childhood Development (ECD) is one of UNICEF China’s key programme areas in the Country Programme 2016-2020, with two outcomes, one of which is cross-sectoral, and one in the Education and Child Development Section with three outputs, specifically:
To support achieving the targets in the outputs, UNICEF support includes both upstream and downstream work. UNICEF works with the national counterparts to develop policies and standards to address the equity and quality issues, and to pilot models and strategies for improving the quality of early childhood services for the disadvantaged children, especially children in rural areas, children left behind, children from ethnic minorities, and children who migrated. Overall advocacy on ECD for the 0-6 year age group, aiming to raise awareness amongst the general public and to promote scientific child-rearing knowledge and skills among parents and caregivers.
