Job Description

The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) is the world's largest humanitarian agency, fighting hunger worldwide. We are seeking to fill a consultancy position of Junior Business Engagement Consultant - Programme based at our Headquarters in Rome, Italy.

The Junior Business Engagement Consultant (BEM) will take on a support role to the Digital Transformation team, with a specific focus on the Policy and Programme, Nutrition, School Feeding, Performance Management and Monitoring Divisions. The Junior BEM will be a natural communicator who can build relationships and learn quickly how to prioritize needs across a wide range of audiences. The Junior Consultant will work under the general supervision and guidance of the Programme BEM.


  • Provide support across the portfolio of: Policy and Programme, Nutrition, School Feeding. Performance Management and Monitoring Divisions.
  • Support the Programme Business Engagement Manager in maintaining close relationships with WFP teams to ensure their technology demand requests are being serviced or closed.
  • Develop a deep understanding of their evolving business model, regardless of technology and the humanitarian field, helping to update relevant Business Roadmaps and Portfolio Health check template.
  • Support the use of these two documents to shape legitimate demand and prioritise for scheduling.
  • Keep updated the overview of technology and programmatic focus in these teams, and how effective/fit for purpose these two trends are aligned.
  • Understand new technology trends, forecast future requirements and help to guide business strategies to include a digital dimension.
  • Capturing, analysing and documenting (i.e. through diagrams, flowcharts, data models, user experience designs, storyboards) business requirements for technology.
  • Support in feeding into estimates, business cases, planning, risk identification, problem and issue management to ensure the effective delivery of IT solutions.
  • Supporting the baseline and tracking of business requirements, ensuring efficient management of change.
  • Include content from assigned portfolios in key TEC events.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications & Experience Required

Education: Advanced University degree in Economics, Computer Science, International Development or other relevant field, or First University degree with additional years of related work experience or trainings/course.

Experience: At least one year of relevant working experience including internships

Technical Skills & Knowledge: Be a great communicator, relationship builder. Analytical skills, ability to prioritize and drive sound business decisions, ability to conduct cost-benefit analyses to support project management. Intermediate knowledge of technology also needed;

Language: Fluency in oral and written English is essential. Intermediate knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish) or Portuguese (one of WFP’s working languages) is desirable.
