Junior Research Assistant

Working with the Artemia4Bangladesh project team, Junior Research Assistant - (Hatchery and Laboratory) will assist to implement activities to establish and disseminate integrated salt, Artemia and Aquaculture to increase food and nutrition security of salt/fish farmers.

Responsibilities:

  • Support project beneficiaries (demonstration farmers) for water quality analysis for example temperature, salinity, dissolved oxygen, ammonia, nitrate, nitrite, alkalinity, phosphate, hardness
  • Conduct the detection of pathogens in Artemia and aquaculture ponds using molecular diagnostic test kits (white spot syndrome virus, acute hepatopancreatic necrosis disease, entercytozoon hepatopenaei)
  • Conduct routine Artemia cyst hatching, cyst and biomass processing, preservation in the laboratory
  • Assist the trial on recirculating aquaculture system in the shrimp hatcheries
  • Assist in marketing Artemia cyst and biomass to different stakeholders (hatcheries, nurseries and grow out)
  • Assist Research Associates and Research Assistants for relevant field activities, and research work
  • Assist to prepare work plans and targets, progress reports (monthly, quarterly, annual), assist scientific publications.
  • Collect required research and monitoring and evaluation data (both qualitative and quantitative), ensure data quality, and assist in analysis
  • Assist in organizing training/ workshop/ seminar in the working area
  • Provide required support to implement demonstration farms for Artemia cyst and biomass production, and aquaculture of saline tolerant species in the salt farms

Requirements:

This position is open for National Candidates with the following skills and qualifications-

  • Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in Aquaculture, Fisheries, Marine sciences, and other development related subjects.
  • Knowledge and skill on shrimp/ fish pathogen detection
  • Knowledge and skill on water quality analysis
  • Candidates with experience in research / survey work, private sector, community discussion, and data collection, organize meeting/ workshop/ seminar, writing meeting minutes, reports in Aquaculture/ fisheries or related areas will be preferred
  • Ability and willingness to travel in remote areas with locally available transportation. Willing and able to travel by motorcycle with valid driving license.
  • Fluency in spoken and written English.
  • Computer literacy in standard MS Office programs, data analysis, prepare presentations
