About the position: The purpose of the Livelihoods and Food Security (LFS) Specialist position is technical development of the Livelihoods and Food Security Core Competency (CC), strategic direction and quality assurance, the CC strategy and quality control. The CC Specialist is responsible for mentoring, training and building the capacity of LFS staff.
- Develop LFS CC strategy, technical guidance and macro log frames that are aligned with regional and global strategies and priorities
- Contribute to fundraising, develop and revise funding proposal, budgets and donor reports
- Identify trends technical standards and donor priorities
- Follow up on compliance with contractual commitments within LFS CC, ensure high technical quality and synergies in project implementation• Provide technical direction and project implementation support
- Ensure that key learnings are extracted from LFS CC implementation, and incorporate them in LFS CC and staff development processes
- Provide systematic training and build the capacity of technical staff, in approaches including cash-based interventions and market-based programme
- Represent NRC in relevant forums/clusters, including with national authorities and donors
- Lead start-up and implementation of two large, multi-year urban livelihoods projects in multiple• locations, focusing on private sector development (engagement with small and medium enterprises, job placements, small business startups, development of market infrastructure, etc.).
- Lead scale-up of existing LFS programmes, including school gardens and agriculture-based livelihoods activities.
- Lead design and implementation of emergency food security responses, including emergency cash or in-kind food distributions.
- Support the consideration and inclusion of cash-based interventions and market-based approaches within (and across) NRC core competency responses, where appropriate.

We are looking for you if you have
- Minimum 4 years of experience within livelihoods and food security in a humanitarian/ recovery context
- Experience working in complex and volatile contexts, including emergency contexts
- Knowledge and skills in market analysis, cash-based interventions and market-based programmes Knowledge about own leadership skills/profile
- Experience in urban livelihoods programmes, in particular working with the private sector.
- Experience in food security interventions, both cash and in-kind.
- Solid understanding of global food security M&E indicators, including how to collect, analyse and report them.
- Experience working with the Food Security and Agriculture Cluster (FSAC), at the country or global level.
- Experience with overseeing start-up and implementation of large projects, including setting up teams, donor reporting, budgeting, writing SOPs.
- Enthusiasm for frequent travels to the field, including in difficult or insecure environments.
- Keen interest in developing national staff capacity, including one-on-one mentoring – especially for female staff.
- A sense of humour!
