Project Overview and Role

Green Finance

  • The green finance team helps the financial sector to be more profitable in positive impact sectors. We work with commercial banks, microfinance institutions, and other non-bank financial institutions to:
  • Enter new markets and market segments
  • Develop savings, digital payments and loan products
  • Mainstream gender and climate adaptation and mitigation in policies, governance and services offered.
  • Implement environmental and Social Governance and Management Systems
  • Streamline bank processes

We support donors and impact investors to:

  • Manage TA facilities and challenge funds
  • Develop blended finance facilities
  • Leverage funding to attract private capital
  • Mainstream gender and climate adaptation and mitigation in policies, governance and services offered
  • Implement environmental and Social Governance and Management Systems
  • Improve the impact of their investments

The green finance team often works with other portfolios in the economic growth cluster as well as with the Government and Climate, Environment and Natural Resources Clusters


  • Lead and participate in technical assignments
  • Provide direction and guidelines to technical teams and implementing partners in the execution of short- and long-term projects and/or consultancy assignments including:
  • Lead or contribute to project work planning, budgeting, progress and financial reporting
  • Manage partner organizations to assure their contractually compliant delivery of agreed inputs and achievement of agreed outputs and outcomes
  • Identify project performance and contract issues and lead or support their timely resolution as appropriate
  • Provide technical and managerial inputs, guidance and oversight to project partners, including beneficiary institutions and individuals
  • Provide support to monitor and assure the quality of Palladium's services and deliverables
  • Oversee appropriate monitoring, evaluation and impact assessments are executed, documented, and disseminated, as appropriate
  • Contribute to research, analysis and publication of technical studies, case studies, policy and program approaches and results to demonstrate thought leadership
  • Identify, build, and maintain relationships with consultants and partners who can provide technical expertise;
  • Work with the Practice Area Leader to promote and deepen Palladium's technical capabilities relating to innovative financing.

Lead and support business development efforts

  • Support a strategic approach to business development through conducting or management of research on issues, countries, clients, partners, and competitors and market opportunities for Palladium's economic growth practice
  • Manage the development of new and maintenance of existing client relationships through interactions with clients at a technical level during the business development cycle;
  • Manage the identification, assessment, and pursuit of new business opportunities
  • Prepare or contribute to capability statements/expressions of interest, technical, and financial proposals
  • Manage partner and team selection and pre-bid negotiations
  • Manage the preparation of responses to client requests for clarifications of proposals
  • Manage post-submittal follow up with clients


  • Master's Degree in Business Administration/Economics/International Development/Finance or related field
  • Extensive experience working major donors, DFIs and/or financial institutions on financial inclusion and SME banking
  • Thorough understanding of financial institutions and / or impact investors in developing country contexts;
  • Good familiarity with established, as well as innovative, approaches to reach currently excluded groups.
  • Experience with green business concepts would be an additional asset
  • Strong project management skills
  • Proven ability to lead business development efforts leading (proposal preparation) and to meet targets for new business capture
  • Excellent command of English. Command of French is a plus.
  • Highly developed interpersonal, communication and reporting skills, coupled with proven conceptual and analytical thinking ability leading to real solutions
  • Willingness to undertake short term missions (1 to 2 weeks) in developing countries, traveling up to 30% of time
  • Flexibility with respect to assigned tasks and assigned engagements due to changing deadlines, changing deliverable s and changing task priorities
