UNOPS Thematic Action Center for Peace and Security - PSC

The Peace and Security Cluster (PSC) UNOPS Thematic Actions Center is located in its North American Office. It is one of the main service providers in the field of mine action, with the Mine Action Service (SLAM), UNDP, UNICEF, the governments of the countries affected by landmines, as well as other partners in the field of mine action. The Center is responsible for administering, supporting and overseeing the day-to-day management of field project offices, responding to both client requests and UNOPS rules and regulations.

The Center is led by the Director of PSC, who has overall authority and is accountable for the results of the Thematic Action Center for Mine Action to its clients.

The CAR faces a weapon problem and explosive risk contamination following longstanding and recent armed conflicts. The presence of explosive remnants of war (ERW), improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and unsecured stockpiles of weapons and ammunition (obsolete, abandoned or neglected) pose a serious threat to civilians and to MINUSCA and humanitarian personnel operating in the country.

General Information - Program of the Central African Republic (CAR)

The United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS), the Peace and Security Cluster (PSC) implements programs for the United Nations Mine Action Service (UNMAS) around the world . In the Central African Republic, UNOPS is implementing the UNMAS RCA program, a project operating under the United Nations peacekeeping mission, MINUSCA.

United Nations Antimonical Action Service (UNMAS)

UNMAS RCA contributes to MINUSCA's UN Security Council mandate by mitigating explosive threats, such as unexploded ordnance and mis-managed ammunition, as well as weapons insecurity. The program works with a variety of beneficiaries and partners, including the Ministry of Defense, international NGOs, international forces and UN agencies, including the MINUSCA police and army.

Through a variety of activities, including explosive device risk education, explosive ordnance disposal (EMN), and ammunition stockpile management (AMM) and small arms and light weapons assistance caliber (SALW) UNMAS RCA is working to make the Central African Republic a more stable and secure country for the development of the political process, the international community, as well as the citizens of the country.

Education / Experience / Language requirements:

Qualifications and experience:

  • A university degree (Master's or Master's degree) in the following fields: social sciences, political science, international relations or another similar field combined with two (2) years of relevant experience; OR
  • A combination of four (4) years of relevant experience.
  • Professional experience
  • At least two (2) years of experience in writing program documents for an international organization or international NGO;
  • A good knowledge of Microsoft, especially Word, Excel and PowerPoint is necessary;
  • Good knowledge of the United Nations information management and reporting processes is an asset;
  • Good knowledge of UNMAS and its activities in the Central African Republic is an asset;
  • Having experience in a multicultural environment is necessary or an asset;

Languages ​​used:

  • French is read, written and spoken fluently;
  • English is read, written and spoken fluently;
  • Knowledge of other official UN languages ​​is an advantage
