GGGI is implementing a KOICA funded “Climate Resilient Forest and Landscape Restoration (CRFLR) project in Ethiopia” in partnership with national and regional government partners. The overall goal of this project is to secure provision of ecosystem services and improve climate resilience and green growth that contributes to national development strategy, GGGI’s strategic outcomes and sustainable development goals.

Reporting to the Project Field Coordinator and the Technical Regional Coordinator, Natural Resource Facilitator will be providing support to regional and woreda level government and to project local implementing partners with regard to sustainable community-based Forestry, Agroforestry, and Sustainable Agriculture interventions in the program intervention areas. S/he will be in charge of effective field-based activities and logistics as well as coordinating participatory mapping and supporting forest, farm and natural resource management (NRM) institutions.

Purpose:

  • Provide technical support and facilitation to GoE field staff, local partners and government offices regarding sustainable community-based forest land restoration and sustainable farmland management at the targeted landscape restoration sites of the project (Oromia and Sidama regions).
  • Facilitates all NRM related activities that are carried out with the local level actors and specifically Watershed Management Cooperatives, Forest Management Cooperatives and Women and Youth VSLA groups.
  • Provide logistical support to the implementation of the project activities that include forest land restoration, participatory forest management, participatory land use planning, sustainable land management, integrated watershed management, climate smart agriculture, forest and farm enterprise development, CBO capacity building and others as per the project document, outcomes, and deliverables in each kebele.
  • Coordinates participatory mapping of indigenous natural resource management (NRM) institutions and participatory forest management groups.

Engagement:

  • Closely coordinate and collaborate with GGGI PMU and CRFL Regional teams, liaising with partner organizations, NGOs, government bodies, and clusters at sub-regional/Woreda/ Kebele level.
  • Facilitate and support project activities focused on allocation and certification of land for forest land restoration and sustainable farmland management activities.
  • Assist in facilitating community NRM based meetings, dialogues, and trainings.
  • Work with Wondo Geget College of Forestry and Natural Resources, Carbon, and Water MRV teams.

Requirements Qualifications:

  • BSc Degree in Forestry, Agro-forestry, Natural Resource Management, land development, Biosphere management or other related fields. MSc Degree is preferred.
  • Preferably 2-4 years of work experience in the design, development, and management of Natural Resource Management Having additional experience on; participatory land use mapping and planning, integrated and sustainable livelihood intervention in forest development interventions, private sector engagement in natural resource development work — are an advantage.
  • Experience in project planning and reporting, documentation, and communications is an advantage.
  • Excellent communication, proficient in English (both verbal and written).
  • Fluency in local language of the region/area (Sidaamu Afoo for Sidama Region) is required.
  • Computer literacy. Good level of proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
