IFC is looking to recruit an Operations Officer responsible for Panama, Guatemala and El Salvador. This position is based in Panama City, Panama and will report to the Central America Country Manager also based in Panama City.

Duties and Accountabilities

Duties will include, but are not be limited to, the following:

Oversee IFC’s program in the named countries (Panama, Guatemala and El Salvador), advising industry teams on country context, strategic fit and integrity issues, and monitoring progress against targets; provide operational support for problem or risky operations.Promoting and help coordinating IFC’s investment and advisory activities, and developing and maintaining relationships with IFC stakeholders, WBG counterparts, governments, and private sector clients to develop IFC business.Co-lead the development of IFC’s country strategies and provide substantive input to country systematic diagnostics and WBG strategy documents.Support Business Development efforts by maintaining working level relationships across IFC, with IBRD counterparts, and with clients and governments.Explore opportunities for and participate in the design of interventions to maximize finance for development and/or create new markets.Help identify and evaluate complex investments.In-depth analytical, financial, credit, integrity assessment, and business skills to identify bankable projects with sustainable development impact as well as potential weaknesses in country portfolio and determine how to approach complex risk-reward trade-offs.Supervise, mentor and coach junior staff and perform quality control of their outputs.Support IFC corporate functions such as representing IFC and/or the World Bank Group, as needed, at public forums and meetings; lead other corporate tasks as requested by the Country Manager.Coordinate the preparation of presentations and reports on IFC’s business as well as management briefs and support internal and external communications in the Central America region.

Selection Criteria

  • MBA or master’s in business, Finance, Economics/Public policy (or related discipline).
  • 10+ years of relevant experience in private sector development, strong understanding of the private sector and PPP landscape in Latin America countries, especially Central America or Guatemala, El Salvador and/or Panama.
  • Prior experience of working with multilateral organizations or development institutions, regulatory bodies and experience in policy dialogue and/or policy making would be a substantial added advantage.
  • Strong analytical skills, ability to think strategically, analyze and synthesize diverse and complex information.Ability and willingness to travel.
  • Ability to communicate ideas clearly and confidently, articulate issues and recommend solutions.Highly motivated and committed professional with a keen interest in private sector development and drive for results.
  • Excellent verbal and written English and Spanish language skills are essential.
  • Good team player who can work as a member of a multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural team, motivate and lead group efforts and network effectively across boundaries.Strong soft skills to be able to work with a diverse group of colleagues and clients.
