GHT Team Purpose:
To lead the delivery of Oxfam's humanitarian strategy
To support lead countries and regions respond to category 1 and 2 humanitarian responses
To support country teams to build their humanitarian capacity
To lead and coordinate the representation of Oxfam in global humanitarian bodies, processes and debates, including global partnerships
To support the Humanitarian Director in leading Oxfam’s humanitarian programme. The Director manages the Global Humanitarian Team, works closely with the rest of the Oxfam international programme, with all of the affiliates globally, services a number of governance and cross-affiliate committees as well as leads on external representation to the humanitarian sector on behalf of Oxfam globally.
The Humanitarian Director’s Senior Personal Assistant is a linchpin in the running of the Global Humanitarian Team, dealing with a wide range of external and internal contacts, using good judgement and diplomacy. The Senior PA works under continual pressure of deadlines to maintain the smooth running of the Director’s own work. This means that the Senior PA must be proactive rather than merely reactive; must be able to prioritise his/her work and maintain a flexible attitude in order to provide continued support to allow the Humanitarian Director freedom to travel worldwide and keep their numerous appointments. The Senior PA must also manage any specific projects requested by the Humanitarian Director and ensure successful implementation. The Senior PA also ensures there is adequate administrative support to the Deputy humanitairn Directors through the line management of their PA.
A key duty of the Senior PA is to manage the processes arrangements for the governance structure put in place by the confederations’ Executive Board. The Senior PA also ensures that important and relevant documents are appropriately archived to keep a track record of decisions made and to facilitate appropriate accountability.
Contacts have to be made worldwide with affiliates, the Executive Board, Board of Supervisors, UN agencies, other NGOs and NGO networks such as SCHR, CaLP, etc., usually at the head of agency level, in a sensitive and helpful manner.
The Humanitarian Directorate must function as an efficient unit, and the Senior PA and all administrative staff must be prepared to be flexible and assist in other duties where there are deadlines to be met or unusual situations to be dealt with.
